[welp, lets do this! I know, another chap but- i'm having fun with this! There'll be some action comin up soon, i'm gettin bored and i'm goddamn writing it! All in good time tho- and this chapter is pretty important!]
Remy found it pretty hard to see in the alleyway- then again, no matter the time of day, this particular alley always looked dark and sinister: a perfect meet for two people who don't want to be found, but aren't exactly hiding either.
"Hey, Vee gurl? You here?" the coffee lover called down the narrow passage, waiting for a response and fighting the urge to shout "Echo" as their voice travelled down. After a couple seconds of no reply, there was a fairly timid "Remy? That you?" that spurred the boy into the darkness. Virgil was in the very depths of it, and they looked about just as deep in their own feelings. The anxious boy was biting his nails, head cast downward and bangs over his eyes in a way that was intimidating and innocent simultaneously. Remy immediately rushed over, concern lacing his voice as he spoke.
"Hey, Vee gurl? You good there?" He said fairly quietly- Virgil had never likes sudden loud noises- Remy couldn't get why, but respected it anyGay.
It was, once more a pause before Virgil replied. "I- I don't think I can face him, Rem. I-, I-" The man stumbled. Remy crouched a little so Vee could see him.
"Hey, hey, gurl it's okay. Take a deep breath." Remy exaggerated a breath, beckoning fir Virgil to do the same and only continuing when he had finished "And talk to me. I know you wouldn't text on such short notice unless something had happened, so gurl- I'm all ears." They said, usually sassy tone a little softer, still Remy- just less brash and intimidating.
"R-Ro- you know Ro, right- confronted me a-about... where I get off to. I used the homeless centre excuse- you know, as you said- but Roman didn't buy it. H-he thought I was cheating." The boy said, a lone tear running down his face. "W-which is stupid- because i- I wouldn't even think-" they got choked up, Remy once more taking a deep breath for Virgil to copy. "Anyway. Pat said - he said he would go check, wh-which is an issue because I was lying- but- Pat checked, obviously found out, but--- he covered for me. Now he spoke with me after, he seemed mad as h-hell- god was it scary- and- but- Rem, I think he knows." Virgil finally finished, earning a sharp gasp from Remy.
"Wait, did he like- did he tell you he knows, or did you infer, or-"
"No, I just... the way he said it, I think he knows."
"S h i t." Remy panicked "Did he- did he seem bothered? I mean, it's not like Nightmare hurts anyone- well, not intentionally."
"I don't know, Rem! I don't know."
Remy added their own input "And then there's that new hero that Morale recruited- Intellect, correct me if i'm wrong, gurl- o h and then The Prince getting stronger by the second, and e v e r y t i m e I try go for any place with decent payout, i'll do all the work and that new-ish duo- I have n o idea what they're going by now, always take it! We need a switch-up." He declared, looking to Virgil.
"I- i'm staying with Ro at the moment, I can avoid Pat for now- i'll just be more careful how i sneak out. It'll be okay, right?!"
"Yeah, Vee. Nightmare always wins, always has and always will." Remy smirked. "But- my question is- how long can we keep going like this? Waiting on the never-never, hoping to catch a break and have a gurl understand that this is our life, our job. We aren't gettin' anywhere solo, Virgil. But... Make it double, and t h e n you've got some trouble." Remy wickedly grinned, a mischievous glint in his eye.
"You know? I'd be up for that." Virgil oh-so-confidently replied.
