Phoenix gritted his teeth as he followed Mar out of the Fish and Chips. He turned each corner each step trying to caught up to her. He only stopped when he saw Mar fall down beside the edge of the water covering her mouth as she started to cry. He took a deep breath reminding himself not to be an idiot as he took a step next to her.

"...I understand you know" he said gently.

"What?" Mar muttered into her hand.

"I understand...the coldness"

Mar looked up at him as he looked out at the water.

"My sister always would get the attention, my mother and father were always fawning over her and my grandparents..."

"Sounds...lonely.." Mar whispered.

"I felt that way, still do  but I force myself to hide it"

Phoenix sighed as he placed his hands behind his neck closing his eyes.

"I forced myself to smile and be happy for my sister or whatever my grandmother had planned...I've done it for so long that to be honest I can't tell you whats a fake smile and a real smile anymore"

Suddenly he flinched as Mar placed her cold hand on his arm. he looked over at her as her pale green eyes seemed to soften as she spoke in a gentle tone.

"I'm sorry..."

"Nothing for you to be sorry about" he smiled.

"...you don't have to fake a smile for me"

Phoenix flinched in surprise as he looked at her. He didn't have to fake a smile for her?

"I don't want to see you smile until you know its a real one" Mar said softly.

Phoenix frowned feeling tears forming in his eyes as he suddenly moved his arm out a bit offering her a hug. He knew it was a stupid idea and he waited for her to reject him for it but suddenly her eyes became half lidded as she leaned against him letting him place his arm around her shoulders. Her breathing was soft as he let out a sigh. For a strange moment...he actually felt okay for once.
