Chapter 2 - Meeting the Grandma
It had been a year since Sef Kosey was sent to the mortal world by his dad.
And it had been two months since his dad failed to attend their weekly Skype calls.
Well, sure. Sef could totally understand that since Intergalactic signals were a little tricky and were a bit fuzzy.
Especially if it's illegal.
And the other side was on the desert.
On another Universe.
But surely his dad could always seek help from Thoth, right?
Yeah, his arrogant father, Seth, the Egyptian god of Chaos asking for help about some computer problems related to WiFi connections. That'll happen.
But, it had been months! Maybe his dad could even at least send him some message over their scepters. Wait, were their scepters even capable of that?
Sef unconsciously clutched the necklace that was hanging on his neck. The contact between him and his father had begun to dwindle four months ago, and this remaining contact between both of them was completely diminished the last two months.
Normally, for a loss of contact for this long, his dad would give him a heads up.
But no, this one was completely different. The last message he gave him was that of Anubis forgetting to send reports to Horus, who currently was on bad terms with his dad that time.
But really, in what time period did his dad ever come to good terms with Horus?
The clock beside him once again alarmed for the third time this morning. He turned it off and sighed, shutting down the laptop that laid on top of his lap.
No point in waiting. He still had rent to pay.
After taking a short bath and quick change of clothes, Sef went out of the house to be met by the dry air of Texas. He slightly smiled, sniffing the dry air around him today. It always made him feel at home.
He reported to his job as a local waiter at a small cafe in the small town where he lived. Despite his dad being filthy rich in the Egyptian Universe, being worshiped and all, his son that was sent to the Mortal Universe wasn't making any bigger progress than a local beggar.
"You're late again, Kosey!" came a shout from inside the kitchen, his boss - Gordon.
He tried not to frown at his boss's tone, looking at the wall clock with a raised eyebrow. He still had five minutes to spare before his shift.
An apron was suddenly thrusted in his face, pulling it down to wear it, he gave a frown to Marsha, the closest friend he had ever since he came here.
"Don't mind him," Marsha told him, smiling, "Man-period, I guess."
His lips twitched to a smile over that. Marsha looked a little out-of-placed in this restaurant with her dark auburn hair and her dark skin. She was beautiful, with perfectly curved hips that made Sef think she should be in Miss World rather than Mister G's Cafe.
"Because of the customers?" Sef asked.
"The lack of it, actually," Marsha replied, gesturing to the almost empty place.
Sef looked around. The place really did look empty, save for a couple in the place who looked like they were in a date. But even they didn't look pleased here. Especially the girl.
Too bad, he thought, his eyes travelling towards the huge menu just above the counter. The featured meal today was Beef Stew, something that even he would admit to being delicious.
