"Hi, I'm Michael, it's nice to meet you" says one of Ashley's friends that I hadn't met before. He has a weird smirk on his face. "Hi, I'm Levi" I say to him, trying to act normal. "Yeah, Levi. Cool. So, what have you been doing with my friend Ash this whole time?" He is asking me. I open my mouth to say something without any idea of what to say. I can't here any words coming out of my mouth.
Luckily that didn't last long because Ashley comes in and saves me. "Why don't you come and choose a movie with me?" She asks, giving Michael some sort of a look, like she is telling him to stop whatever he was doing. She still seemed kind while doing so.She took my arm and we walked towards the couch, where the DVD's were displayed."Nightmare cinema seems like an interesting movie" I say to Ashley as I look towards Michael who is in the kitchen, across the room, squinting at me. "That's a good movie, but don't scream and run home because it's to 'scary' for you" He says. I have to say that he is slightly intimidating. "I haven't watched this movie before so I think it's a good choice" Ashley says trying to save me. As the movie starts Michael begins to walk away.
"Don't worry about him" Ashley tells me. "He's just very overprotective" She says."Like a father" she says awkwardly. I think that maybe I'm showing some awkwardness or that I look sad, I have my reasons, because she says: "I'm sorry, I didn't mean to . . ."
"It's okay" I interrupt." You couldn't have known." She looks sad to, like something has happened to her family. That could be why she lives with her friends, not that it's a bad thing."My parents got divorced when I was really young" I admitted. "They've always been really nice to me. My dad is from Australia, so he went to stay there after the divorce."
"So you're living with your mother?" Ashley is confirming.
"Yeah. Well not really. My mother has a boyfriend now and he likes to travel a lot, so she's not at home because she is always with him. Would you like to come over to my house?" I ask nervously, changing the topic.
"Yeah, sure"she said while smiling a little. We both move closer to each other on the couch while staring into each others eyes. As Michael walks into the room we quickly move as far as we can to the other side of the couch. "Can I get some popcorn for you?" Ashley asks me as she gets up and walks towards the kitchen.
"That would be nice" I say, trying to give her a reason to avoid the awkwardness with Michael in the room. "You have to tell her bro" he says in his African-American accent. "I can't. I don't want her involved." I say while making sure to keep my voice down so that Ashley wouldn't hear me, although Michael ruined my effort by talking like what seems to be the loudest he can possibly shout.Sorry. I'm exaggerating. It's just a thing.
There are more people walking into the living room, including Melissa, Jared and Tom. They're starting to sit on and around the couch. Ashley walks into the room, only to find me squashed in between people that I'd never seen before. She gives them all two big bowls filled with popcorn. "I believe that you have something you'd like to tell me" she says as we leave the room for a walk outside.
We walk in silence. "I don't know how to answer that. Trust me, I'd really tell you if I knew how." I blurt on like an idiot. I had just told her what I was thinking. My thoughts are like a diary, they both hold things that no one else should know about. Something about it felt good though. Like something that I don't even know how to describe yet. Comfortable. Comforting? I don't know.
We lie on the grass looking up at the stars. "Before we go to my house tomorrow can I show you a place that might be able to explain everything?" I ask her.
"It isn't dangerous?" She asks me.
"No. I would never put you in that situation. Okay. Maybe it's a little dangerous, but don't worry about it" I say. We both turn and stare into each others eyes once again. I smile at her and she smiles back.
"I'm not sure. Maybe I can pencil it into my schedule" she jokes around with me. I laugh. I don't know when the last time that I'd laughed like this, or had smiled this much.(«-exaggeration)"Yes. I'll come" she says as she moves over, her hands now on my chest. She leans in to kiss me as I pull her closer to me, my arms by her lower back. She unwillingly pulls away from my arms and stands up. I sit up to look at her. "I'll see you tomorrow okay" she says as she starts walking away. "Good night" I say in a disappointed tone, hoping that it wasn't obvious.I threw myself back onto the ground for a little bit longer. I wish that I didn't have to leave her and go home. I wish that I could spend every second of my life with her. Kissing her felt amazing, even better than a relaxing hug. She is amazing. This is where it starts, I know it. You may not know what 'it' is, but I do. And you'll know soon.
