I woke up at 9:46 am on a regular hot July morning, actually not any regular day, it was July 5th. "How wonderful" I muttered to myself and rolled my eyes, it is my 16th birthday, I normally do everything with my best friend Amara, except this summer, she decided to go to writing camp in New York, across the whole country. I mean, I'm happy for her, and I do want her to become better at writing or become an author, but it sucks when I have to celebrate my whole summer and my birthday alone.
I rolled out of my bed and got ready for the day. After my relaxing hot shower, I put on a pair of black ripped jeans and a dark pink crop top with the word "cute" in the center. I grab my phone and head downstairs for breakfast, almost tripping over the last step.
"Happy birthday hun," a soft voice says, I look to my right to see who it was, it was my mother.
"Thank you, what's for breakfast"? I responded sit down at the dining room table to eat.
"Smoked bacon and chocolate chip pancakes, your favourite" My mother replies with a huge smile, and places a plate of delicious food in front of me.
"Aw, thank you mom" I smiled back and begin eating.
"So what are your plans for the day"? My mother asked, trying to start a conversation after a long moment of silence.
"I'm thinking of going to the mall to buy some clothes, and a new purse, I saw one the other day which was one sale, so I might get it" I responded with a slight smile.
"Do you need some extra money, or do you need me to drive you there, I can drop you off before work"? My mother asked.
My mother is always finding ways to try to help others, that is what I love about my mother, I am glad I got that quality from her, I love helping people, even if it is in the smallest way.
"It's okay mom, I have enough money, and I can take the bus to the mall and back, you just worry about going to work and not worry about me, okay?'' I replied as I was putting my dirty dishes from breakfast into the dishwasher.
"Okay sweetheart, I'm just trying to help" she smiled.
"I know mother, that is why I love you so much" I glared over at the clock on the wall above the stove, it read 11:02 amm, great the mall should be open by now. "I'm going to head to the mall now, that way I can be finished and be back when you are done work," I say walking towards the front door.
My mother puts her dishes into the dishwasher, washes her hands and follows me over to the front door of our house. "Don't forget to bring your purse, and be safe hun?" my mother says after she hands me my small white purse, which I have been using for a good two years now. I put the purse over on my shoulder and put on my black hightop converse shoes.
"I will see you later mom when you get home from work," I say looking at my mother.
I look at my mother's bright hazel eyes and her long smooth dark blonde hair, I wish I got my mother's appearance, instead, I have boring golden brown hair and brown eyes. After a moment, I give my mother a hug, which is the nicest feeling in the world, my mother hugs me back softly.
"Have fun?" my mother says after she gives me a tiny kiss goodbye on the cheek
"Okay, love you, mom," I say, then I turned around to the door and turned the door handle, and I walked out of my home.
Suddenly there I was, standing in the doorframe of my house, staring at my neighbourhood, rows of small houses exactly like mine, an elementary school down the street, and a library beside the school, except it wasn't my neighbourhood. It was buildings. Rows and rows of futuristic-looking buildings that were at least thirty to fifty floors tall.
Where was I? I had no idea at all.
