"Did I say you could stop?!" Hayden questions me as I stay in plank for a few moments.
"I need a break Hayden," I whine as pain goes through every cell in my body.
"You'll get one after you do 5 push-ups!" he orders me with a stern voice.
I whimper as I do another push-up.
"I think that's enough training, don't you Hayden?" A familiar voice speaks up and I stop.
"That won't be necessary," Hayden says, a cue for me to continue.
"Hayden," the voice becomes slightly more stern. "The test is tomorrow, he needs to rest and be in the best condition. If he continues practicing he won't be able to participate in the test. He'll be too weak, he'll probably break if he kept practicing."
I look up at Hayden with pleading eyes. He sighs and nods his head to me and the girl with purple and blue hair.
"You're dismissed Alexander," he says and walks away.
His soft side hasn't come back for 3 days and I feel more distant as days pass. He welcomed me here and now it's like he wants me gone for good.
"Hayden?" I call out to him after thanking Jason's daughter.
"What?" he snaps.
"What is wrong with you?" I ask concerned.
"nothing that should concern you," he says his eyes scream the need of help as the bags under his eyes seem the darkest they've been.
"Hayden... you aren't being yourself," I say and place a hand on his shoulder. For a moment his eyes soften. "Please... talk to me."
"I don't want you to go to the test..." he mumbles and walks away.
I stand, glued to the spot, staring at his back as he walks away. I don't move... I don't want to go to the test either.

I sit on the cold metal seat that was placed out for the males. I haven't seen Hayden ever since we last talked. I've looked around the room at least 60 times, and I haven't seen him once. I rub my hands on my sweatpants I was given before coming into this waiting room.
"Nervous?" Someone behind me asks.
I turn my head and look at the person over my shoulder.
"How'd you know?" I joke and he chuckles lightly.
"The names Fin," he says and gives me a grin.
"Alexander, but everyone calls me Alex," I say and nod but when a guard looks at me pointedly I turn away.
"How old are you?" He asks after moments of silence.
"I'm-..." I get cut off by a girl screaming.
"No!" She screams and tries to escape the hold of guards. "Please! No!"
A gunshot rings through the room and the girl goes limp.
"Anyone who resists dies!" A guard yells out.
"That's ridiculous..." I whisper under my breath.
"I know right..." A boy a year or two younger than me says. "Apparently last year over 20 were killed here for resisting."
I gulp and look at the man that comes out to call someone's name that might be one with the rest who die and are forgotten.

"Hunter, Skye Hunter," a lady in a formal dress calls.
A girl with curly blue hair that faded to purple stands up. Her eyes the most unique that anyone had every seen. One eye is faded blue that can easily be mistaken for grey. As for her other eye, violet. She has the body of a model you see sponsoring a surfing brand. Beautiful olive skin to complement the softness of her skin. She radiates many emotions, but none of them is confidence.
"King, Alexander King," a man calls in a suit after.
I breath out a breath of fear as I stand up. I look at the girl with blue and purple hair, who was already staring at me, before walking away with the man... How come her last name is Hunter and not Pipe? Did she take her mother's maiden name?
I walk down a narrow hallway following the man in a suit.
"What is it I have to do?" I ask.
"Live," he says with no emotion. It's as if he's a robot.
I nod and try to swallow the lump that's formed in the back of my throat.

I stand in the middle of a room, weapons are lined on a table and cages are on the other side of the room. A door opens and I quickly spin to see Skye walk in.
"Why didn't you tell me your name is Skye?" I ask.
"Because if we don't live after this test so, what's the point in knowing much about me?" She responds and walks to the table.
I shrug and walk to the table to grab the bow and arrows.
"Bow and arrow?" She asks.
"What's wrong with a bow and arrows?" I ask frowning.
She shakes her head with a beautiful smile. I quickly snap out of my daze as I hear one of the cage doors open. I turn and get ready to shot whatever comes out. I hear another gate thing open and I turn to that too. I hear a roar of a tiger from behind and I instantly turn and see the tiger getting ready to lunge for Skye. I realise it's hopeless trying to shot it with an arrow so when it jumps for her I get in the way. Taking the blow from the tiger.
