My favorite bl ship right here. It's one of the very few pairs I ship from the Pokemon franchise. Of course being typical ten year olds, their friendship got rough due to disagreement and a broken pokeball lol. Somewhere near the end of the OS series they made up and became friends again. Well ain't that nice. To be honest, they were just friendly rivals. Let's also not forget that, based of Professor Oak's claim, Ash is Gary's most important friend.
Ash and Gary were quite similar. Despite Gary's teasing and Ash's attempts of retaliation, that enough showed they still cared, even when Gary's personality went a bit too far. Even so, they weren't enemies. They were just two kids who's friendship was wavering for some time. Then in those moment where they were not so rude to one another, they both were so caring it was shocking sometimes.
They have a strong girl relationship and had their ups-and-downs. I find it a kewl ship.
