John Adams(1735-1826) was a, then, 35-year old lawyer living in Boston at the time of the infamous "Boston Massacre". Although, as we all know him to be a Patriot leader, he actually fought, the case in court months following the incident, on the British officers' side.
On March 5, in 1770, British officers fired upon a mob in Boston, Massachusetts. American colonists were enraged at the incident, it had been depicted as an event in which a peaceful assembly which was broken up by gunshots without provoking, Although, it would appear that it was group, that kept growing, apparently led by one Crispus Attucks who was holding a club. The band of people dared the soldiers, shouting, "Fire, damn you, fire, you dare not fire!" It was also said that the people threw oyster shells, lumps of coal, ice, and snowballs at who they referred to as "Lobster-backs", concerning their brightly red uniforms.

It was not an easy side, but John Adams was able to be persuaded to fight the officers' case. He saw that this needed to be a fair trial and believed in proper justice. The trial lasted six days, which was a very long time for a criminal-related trial. In the end, Captain Preston, British officer, was found not guilty.
