Chapter 8

-A few months later-

Virgil POV

It was a hot day in the summertime, and I put my hand over my eyes to block the sunlight. I was June 20th. Graduation day. To be honest, I wasn't expecting this year to be so... Perfect. Way better than my stupid private school.

We were in alphabetical order, practicing one last time before graduation started, and even though he was at the other end of the field, I could hear Patton sobbing into an amused Logan's shoulder.

"I don't want to leave you guys!"

"It's alright, Patton. It'll *laughs* be okay."

"Its not funny!"

"I know, I know."

When my name was called, I quickly ran on stage and off again, feeling everyone's eyes burning into me. Even though graduation hadn't started yet, I was still nervous about going on stage.

After the practice was done, I met up with the others. After what happened, I forced Roman to apologize and Patton forgave him. Things aren't exactly the way they used to be, but it's as close as we're gonna get.

"It's so hot under my binder but I don't want to take it off~" Patton groaned, blowing into his shirt in an attempt to cool himself down. I laughed. "It'll be okay, Patton. It's starting to cool down already.""

"Whatever you say, but if I die of a heat stroke- not actually Logan, i'm not gonna die."

Logan sighed in relief.

I laughed.

I can't believe I got so lucky

-Time skip-

It was the late afternoon, and we were getting into alphabetical order to start the ceremony. People were starting to sit down on the bleachers, and I could feel my anxiety growing.

I felt Patton put a hand on my shoulder reassuringly. "It'll be okay, Virgil! You just have to run up there, take the book with your diploma in it and run off! Nothing to be said to anyone!" I smiled at Patton "So, are you excited for Logan's speech?"

Patton sighed, his cheeks turning red. "Of course i'm excited for my Logiebear's speech! Did you hear? He got accepted into Harvard! I'm so proud of my nerdy boy!"

I laughed "Wow, those nicknames were so unnecessary."

Patton shoved me playfully "Oh come on! You know you would act the same way if you and Roman got together!"

I blushed "S-shut up" Patton giggled "Are you still planning on asking him out after the graduation ceremony?"

"I'm not sure..-"

"Really? But you guys would be so cute together! You know he likes you!"

"Patton..."

"Please?" he gave me puppy dog eyes, quietly whimpering. Eventually, I gave in "Ugh, fine."

"YAY!!!" he jumped up, clapping his hands together excitedly.

"Patton!" The teacher called from the field "Get in your spot! The ceremony's about to start!" "I'm coming!" Patton turned back to me "I gotta go now. I'll see you after the ceremony! Good luck!"

I waved at him, smiling "See you later, Patton!"

~Time skip~

"Hello everyone!" Mr. Picani's cheerful voice boomed through the microphone, getting everybody's attention. "Welcome to the class of 20** graduation ceremony!" Everyone cheered and hollered, and I covered my ears to stop the noise from giving me a headache.
