You work at a gas station out in the middle of nowhere, only one long lonely road between two major cities connected you to civilisation. Your boss has been short of staff lately so he ordered you to work extra and longer shifts to fill in the missing gaps. From where you lived you had to drive a long 2.5 hours, you hated your job but it was the only place that accepted your application, so you kinda had no choice.

The constant silence kept you on edge in the beginning, but sooner or later you got used to only hearing the buzzing of the coolers and air conditioner. When you did get customers, they were either weird or boring. Sometimes you would get those stupid or drunk teens travelling from one party to another, which entertained you for a short period of time.

It was now 10:35pm and outside it's pitch black, I normally had to drive back home really late these days. Looking at my phone I plug my earbuds in and start playing music, I shuffled it on random and enjoyed every song that came on. Staff weren't allowed to have their mobiles in usage but my boss gave me the thumbs up because of my extended hours, music perked up my step quite a lot when I worked. It makes me feel good and when I feel good I tend to get more work done, it's not a distraction most of the time.

I had a sticky note that one of the previous workers left for me when I got here, it was just a list of small chores. I almost got them all done but all I had to do now was mop the floor in the store and in all the faculty only rooms, which are off limits to normal customers. Seeing as I wasn't getting any customers right now, I slipped away from the counter I was stationed at, took my phone and planted it in my back jean pocket and went over to the mop and bucket.

As I hummed to the music softly, I see in the corner of my eye a car park up outside. I quickly pulled out my earbuds and waited for the customer or customers to come in, it took them a quite while.

A tall muscular man walked into the store, he had a large scruffy black beard and his hair was put up in a messy man bun. He wore a red cap and a white and red T-Shirt, he looked over to me and greeted me politely, I returned the greeting. I finished mopping up one of the small isles and returned behind the cashier for the customer, he walked around looking at different snacks and drinks.

Looking out the window next to me I see the many trees, their leaves moving with the wind, it looked so peaceful. My mind couldn't help but imagine me walking in the woods, with the beautiful moonlight shining down. I would walk out into a mysterious clearing and see a small pond, that was decorated with rocks, grass and-

My thoughts were abruptly stopped by the man dropping his things on the counter, it made me jump.

"I'd like to buy these please" He says in a deep calm voice.

"Oh yes! Of course" I smile at him as I started to check out his things, he picked out three Pepsi Max cans with three different flavours of Crisps.

"Could you put this on pump 2?" He hands me 5 dollars and some cents, I nod my head in response.

"Would you like anything else sir?" I assured as I put everything in a small plastic bag. He shakes his head in response as he pays for the rest of his snacks. He then proceeded to wish me a goodnight as he walks back to his car and steadily leaves the station.

I was now back to my lonesome which again didn't bother me as much anymore, looking back out the window again I didn't expect to see another figure so fast. But they didn't bring a car with them, they didn't bring anything? This person walked all the way out here?
