Summer POV
I laugh with Princeton as he shows me pictures of the boys of when they were younger. Ryan said we needed to be at his family house today, I didn't see any importance for, but at least I get to see these baby pictures. Ryan was so cute and Xavier was so adorable. Now, they're both handsome men.
"This is on Xavier's fifth birthday, he wanted a camping party, so we all went to the family cabin out in the woods and camped out there all weekend. He got so mad when there weren't no bears around." Princeton laughs.
I laughed along with him, picturing adorable little Xavier with his brown eyes and little lips in a pout.
"You and Ryan should check out the family cabin, see if it's still holding up. It makes a great winter trip for the kids," Princeton suggests.
"Is it here? In the woods?" I ask.
This family seems to have their whole civilization here on this plot of land. If they even have a plot of land, they probably own a whole county.
"Yes it is," Princeton simply answer.
"I hope you don't mind me asking, but is this family... wealthy? It seems like you own a lot of land and Ryan was telling me something about you guys owning the house we live in," I bite my lip as Princeton gives a light chuckle.
"We are a wealthy family — have to be. Almost our entire family lives in this house, generations and friends, you should see the bills for this place alone." Princeton laughs. "Forget the property tax."
I could only hum as I think about everything. They own a lot of land in the woods, they're mysteriously rich, and I had an dream about Xavier being werewolf. Twice.
If I have a third dream then this will be no coincidence. It will mean I'm surrounded by liars and ungodly animals... it will mean I'm in love with one.
"Everything alright, Summer?" Princeton asks me, drawing me back to reality.
The reality I live in. This pregnancy must be driving me mad because werewolves aren't real. They can't be.
"Yes, Everything is fine. Now, when do you think we should have the gender reveal?" I ask him.
"I'm making the plans for this weekend," Princeton chirps.
I gasp, "So soon?"
"Well, these twins are acting out who's to say next week they push you into labor," Princeton points out.
I could only nod because he made an excellent point. Now I only have to hope that the twins stay calm until the weekend.
The door to the bedroom opens and Kylani pokes her head in. The twins shifted inside me and I knew that she meant ill will immediately.
"Hello to you both, I came in here to call Summer down for a girls meet," she giggles.
I bite my lip as Princeton urged me to go along. I stood up from the bed and followed Kylani out of the room as Princeton gave me an encouraging smile. I'm going to need it.
"My sister and I are so anxious to know the genders of your kids, so we were hoping to do an old trick to find out before the party," Kylani speaks.
I raise an eyebrow as we enter the dining room where her sister sat at the table that displayed a number of items and a tea set. What is it that they plan to do?
"Take a seat," Kiani tells me with a suspicious smile.
My nerves caused my hands to shake as I pulled a chair and took a seat. This doesn't feel right.
"Now, we're going to pour you a cup of tea and you're going to drink as much as you can in one cup before grabbing one of these items," Kylani explains.
There was a Sleeping With Sirens band shirt, a raggedy doll, a letter, and a small treasure chest. How was this supposed to work?
"How is this going to tell you the genders of my children?" I ask.
"The tea has an old witch spell on it that was passed down from generation to generation. It makes your body in tune with your children, once you grab an item, we will burn it and see the color of the fire," Kiani says.
Witch? Are they Wiccan? Pagan? Doesn't matter because I do not play with witchcraft. I do not fully understand it and its depth, so I refuse to use it.
"I'm sorry, but I do not do witch craft, thank you for the suggestion though," I say before standing up from my seat.
"I'm sorry, but what do you mean you don't "do witch craft"?" Kylani asks a slight hint of anger in her voice.
"I don't mean any harm, but I don't like things I don't understand and I will not play with witch craft," I tell her as I walk away from them both.
"You'll never be accepted into this family!" Kylani yells at me.
My heart rips as I pause my movements. Is she serious? I'm getting discarded because I don't want to do this stupid witch trick? I could hear their footsteps coming behind me which caused me to turn to their angry faces.
"I see why your family isn't here now because you are a ungrateful child and I'm going to make sure you won't be accepted into this family either. If I have too, I'll even make sure Ryan never marries you," Kylani spits.
Each threat took a strike at my heart and slowly I stepped past them out the door. I can't do this anymore. I can't pretend with his family. I can't force myself to be apart of his family.
I'll never be good enough for any family. Not even my own.
