Once him and Ty were inside the institute he led Ty, who was still violently trembling, up the stairs and to his bedroom where he collapsed on his bed and buried his head into the pillows. Kit stood awkwardly next to his bed, he wasn't sure if he should leave or wait with Ty, if he was to leave where was he even meant to go? Fuck it he thought to himself as he sat down on the edge of Ty's bed. Ty didn't say anything, the only indication that he was still alive was the way his body shuddered with silent sobs.

They sat in silence for a good five minutes before Ty slowly sat up, wiping tears from his face. Ty's eyes were red-rimmed and his face was blotchy and flushed red, his hair knotted where had been running his hands through it. Kit was shocked by the fact that even in this state the fact that Ty was near him made his heart pound in his chest.

"I'm sorry," Ty mumbled, he was staring just to the left of kits left eyebrow but that was close enough to eye contact for Ty. "It's alright," Kit said, looking down at his hands. "No, it's not alright, I'm sorry I shouldn't have said those things I-" Ty paused as if deciding whether or not he should carry on "I'm glad you came back." Kit nodded, he felt so overwhelmingly uncomfortable, how was he supposed to act around Ty now that he had told the other boy how he felt. "Look," Kit started, praying that his voice wasn't trembling "I know I said all that stuff to you by the lake but I don't want it to change anything and I don't want you to feel like-" he realised that he was rambling and stopped, taking a deep breath before he continued "I just really don't want to lose you Ty," Ty nodded, his brow was furrowed the way it always was when he was trying to figure something out.

They sat in silence again for several minutes, Kit kept sneaking glances towards Ty but Ty seemed to be completely lost in thought. "I'm going to go now," Kit mumbled before getting up to leave the room. Without a word Ty caught at his hand, Kit's breath caught in his throat and he stopped immediately. Ty looked up at him with wide grey eyes. "You can go," he said "but please don't leave me." Ty dropped Kit's hand and lay back on his bed signalling the end of the conversation. Kit left without a word.

Kit had only been gone for a few minutes and Ty was finally beginning to sort through the mess of thoughts inside his head when Julian barged into his room. Ty sat up studying Julian's facial expression, relief, that was what Julian felt. "You're safe," Julian breathed, coming to sit on the bed where Kit had been moments ago. Ty nodded in response to his question, he felt distant from the situation, so caught up in his own emotions that it was hard for him to be entirely present. "What happened?" Julian questioned. Ty shrugged, he wasn't in the mood for talking but with a quick glance at Julian he knew he wasn't satisfied with his half-hearted responses. "Oh, the music just got a bit loud so Kit brought me back here," Ty said.

"Kit?" Jules asked, the confusion evident in his tone, obviously no one else knew that Kit was here yet. "Yeah," Ty replied. Julian dropped his head in his hands momentarily before getting up and leaving him to his own thoughts. Ty slipped on his headphones and began to sort through the mystery that were his own emotions.

Kit sat on the floor in his bedroom in despair. He wanted to cry, for the first time in his life Kit wished he was able to release his emotions but he had been holding back his tears for so long that he wasn't sure if he could. He sat there, dry eyed staring into nothingness, his emotions bubbling beneath the surface. No matter what he said to Ty to try and make things better between them he just ruined their relationship even more to the point where Kit was debating whether it was fixable anymore.

A soft knock on his bedroom door interrupted his thoughts. He went to open it, silently hoping but also dreading that it was Ty. It wasn't. When he opened the door Jem stood there with his calm expression and kind eyes looking at Kit quizzically. Jem should be furious with him but from his expression it didn't look like he was. Kit stepped aside and allowed Jem into his bedroom. "Hi," Kit mumbled awkwardly, sitting down on the edge of his bed. Jem said nothing but mirrored the action. "I'm sorry, what I did was terrible." Kit said staring at his shoes. "It's ok Kit," Jem said, he sounded reassuring but Kit couldn't understand how Jem could be so calm about everything. Kit opened his mouth to speak again but Jem interrupted gently "We were worried obviously but we could see you run down to the sea, you did disappear behind a rock when you got there but we know you can take care of yourself." Kit looked up slightly to see Jem with a slight smile. "You are a Herondale Kit, your family's notorious for making reckless decisions but always managing to get out the consequences." Jem said patting Kit in the back and going to leave the room. Kit smiled at Jem as he left, shutting the door quietly behind him.
