Kit was almost certain that, after the first thirty or so minutes of driving , Julian and Emma had realised something was different. Although Kit tried to comfort himself that the two of them were unaware of exactly what had happened the change in the atmosphere was undeniable. Julian continued to shift in his seat and glance back at the two of them, which only helped to make Kit blush further with the thought of Julian discovering what had happened between him and his younger bother.

Kit still refused to look at Ty. Partly because he would no doubt descend further into a blushing mess and also because Kit had never been particularly famed for his self control and he did not feel like now, with Ty's fiercely overprotective brother glancing at them every few seconds, was really the time to throw himself across the car and kiss Ty again. So, Kit was left to stare out the window and attempt to commit every detail of the incident to his memory, which wasn't difficult as it seemed to be seared into every part of his mind.

Ty was still shifting awkwardly where he sat; he just could not bring himself to sit still. His whole body felt like it was burning but in a pleasant sort of way. He continually tried to catch Kit's eye but to now avail since Kit was decidedly not looking at him. He couldn't describe the feeling seeing as he had never experienced it before but he stomach was fluttering, he legs felt slightly weak and his whole body felt warm. That was all Ty knew and he knew he needed Kit near him again.

After much awkwardness the car finally came to a halt, crunching in the stones and sands of the towering hill where they had stopped. The goodbyes were hurried, both Julian and Emma took it in turns to say goodbye to Ty; Julian embracing him and Emma patting him on the shoulder affectionately, Ty was leaning against the car awkwardly saying goodbye to Magnus when he heard Julian and Kit's hushed voices from behind the car.
'I don't know what it is but I know you're keeping something from me Kit,' Jules' voice - Ty realised he sounded annoyed.
'Nothing is going on.' Kit's muffled voice replied harshly, he sounded so different from the Kit who had practically been melting in his hands only an hour ago.
'So there is nothing between you and Ty?'
Ty waited for Kit to stumble over his words, he even peered round the side of the car for a few seconds, hoping to see Kit awkwardly shuffling from one foot to the next - Ty was certainly no expert on body language but he knew that was a clear tell if someone was lying or nervous, all his Sherlock Holmes books had taught him well. What he saw was Kit standing completely still, meeting Julian's eyes completely and when he spoke his voice was cool and calm. Ty had never heard Kit speak like that before, at least not to him.
'Me and Ty are friends. I don't know why you would think anything else'
Ty's heart split down the centre, an earthquake of confusion and sadness running beneath his ribcage.

Julian was finally gone.
Kit understood being overprotective of your younger siblings, or maybe he didn't since he had always been an only child, but Julian took the whole defensive older brother cliché and ran a marathon with it. He reached up and brushed the hair from his face, trying to brush thoughts of Ty from his mind with it. He was unsuccessful. Coupled with the nerves of the impending fight he felt ready to explode, or maybe implode, he wasn't sure.
His mind was racing, he just needed to get through today and then he could deal with whatever he felt for Ty. He repeated it over and over to himself as he retrieved weapons from the car and tucked them safely into his gear. He was distantly aware of Emma, Julian and Magnus leaving but all his energy was focused on not thinking about Ty, on trying to explain to himself why he felt that if he didn't rush over to Ty as push him against the car and continue whatever it was they had been doing earlier he might combust. Especially since he didn't like boys in that way, and even if he did he would never want to inflict that on Ty or pressure him into anything.

By the angel he really needed to focus. He could feel Ty's gaze on him, a heavy, burning weight on the back of his neck. He would recognise the feel of that gaze anywhere, the hot iron of Ty's grey eyes. Kit looked up and their eyes met and for a split second Kit's self control shattered, he nearly crossed the short distance between them but before he could a shriek pierced the air and a demon tumbled form the sky, colliding with the ground in front of Ty in a cloud of dust. Before Kit could process what had happened Ty leapt backwards, grabbing a seraph blade from his belt and driving it through the demon's neck. Momentarily, Kit was struck in the chest with his shame at his own ineptitude in combat, but he didn't have much time to become caught up with that as several more winged demons hit the ground between himself and Ty.

Kit plunged his seraph blade into yet another demon's back, or maybe it as its head, he didn't have time to get caught up in the details - as long as it was dead and not attacking him or Ty that was the most important thing. He was impressed and mildly surprised that he had managed to keep fighting for this long, and he was even more surprised to find that he wasn't hating it. He turned to his left and sent another demon stumbling away, trailing dark ichor behind it. He felt free for the first time since that moment by the river. One mistake now, one moment not paying attention because he was too lost in his own mind could cost him dearly. He caught up with the fleeing demon and severed its head - it definitely wouldn't survive that he though, shocked at his own smugness. His arms ached as he drew a short dagger from his belt and plunged it into the gnarled body of a demon descending on him.

Ty exhaled bringing his seraph blade down in a curving arc. He was glad the number of demon's quickly depleting, they had been fairly easy to kill, which he was thankful for. He glanced around him and, seeing that they were no longer surrounding him, he glanced up through the curtain of black hair in front of his eyes to see Kit, his golden hair falling in front of his eyes kill two demons in at once. The moonlight caught the deep blue of eyes and Ty had one thought - how beautiful. Kit looked up and caught Ty's eyes with his own, he was breathing deeply from the exertion of battle but he grinned and Ty was sure his heart stopped. He swung his arm round Ty's shoulder, leading him back to the car. He seemed almost giddy with exhilaration. It was unusual for Kit to touch Ty so casually but Ty couldn't say he didn't like it, he felt colour creep into his cheeks despite his exhaustion.

"I'm so tired," Kit breathed as he slipped into the back of the car, and he sounded it, his voice was husky and deeper than usual.

Feeling slightly flushed, Ty mumbled something about putting his weapons back and remained outside the car. The cool breeze danced across the bridge of his nose and soothed the colour in his cheeks. He discarded his seraph blades, took a few deep breaths in an attempt to drink in the night air's clarity and walked round to the open car door. Kit was sprawled on the back seat, his gear jacket was strewn over passenger seat. The moonlight painted the sharp line of his jaw, the curve of his hip, plane of his stomach in delicate silver. Ty couldn't help his sharp intake of breath or the way his stomach flipped at the sight.

"Kit," He whispered, his voice shaky. Kit only hummed in response -  Ty realised there was little hope in waking him up. At least this way he wouldn't have to talk to him, Ty reasoned with himself as he shrugged of his own ichor-covered jacket and somehow managed to fit himself on the back seat laying pressed against Kit. Kit mumbled something to him, his breath ghosting across Ty's neck and Ty realised that the chances of him sleeping that nigh were very slim.

{writer's note, feel free to skip}
well, it's been a while since i revisited this story - almost two years since i published the first part. naturally my writing style has changed slightly, as have my perceptions of kit and ty as characters so sorry if this part seems a bit different to previous parts, or their respective inner voices seem 'off'. i'm going to be continuing the story so hopefully over the next part any inconsistencies should iron themselves out (lets hope anyway). thank you so much for the continual support on this story even after so long! as always, i'm open to any constructive criticism or any requests for later parts :)
