y/n sat at her booth, laughing at her friend's silly "mocha mustache." it really wasn't that funny but she found herself in a good mood today, so she didn't hold back.

"that's so immature of you," she expressed between giggles. laughing felt good after the stress of moving.

for college, y/n had to study lots of korean. not only the language but the culture as well. she was going to attend the university of seoul so doing this would be easier for not only her but her future teachers and classmates in the long run.

y/n finally calmed down and took a sip of her frappuccino.

"have our cakes come yet?"

her friend asked. y/n looked around the shop before shaking her head.

"no, i don't think so. i'll go check on them."

y/n stood up and walked over to the counter, where there was a man in front of her, struggling to get out his order. both the customer and the cashier seemed confused. y/n tried to listen to see if she could help. the cashier sounded irritated at the man and was quite honestly being rude and disrespectful. there was a line and people were getting impatient so y/n decided to intervene.

"excuse me. what's going on here?" she asked the man calmly.

"this chink can't seem to get his order together and he's wasting everyone's time."

y/n scoffs in disbelief. "okay do you know what language he speaks?"

the man rolls his eyes.

" i dunno. prolly chinese."

he chuckles only to see that y/n isn't playing. she turns back to the customer and greets him slowly. not slow enough for it to seem like she's mocking him but slow enough for him to understand. he honestly looks really upset.

"hello. are you okay?"

the man nods and purses his lips. y/n isn't sure but she tries her luck with some basic korean, just to see if he does understand.

"maybe you can tell me what you want and i'll explain it to him in english, okay?"

the man's face lights up and he nods his head aggressively. y/n smiles in response and turns back to the cashier giving him a look.

"two iced green teas, two americanos, and three waters. all venti"

y/n nods and faced the cashier once again.

"two iced green teas, two americanos, and three waters. all venti."

the cashier placed the order and the young man payed.

y/n got her cakes and walked back to her booth. as she set the cake down, a tap on her shoulder got her attention. she turned around, slightly startled.

"hi. i just wanted to come over and thank you for earlier. . ."

he nervously smiles and scratches the back of his neck.

"and maybe ask for your number . . ."

he trails off at the last part.

". . . um, sure . . ."

he hands y/n the phone and she puts her phone number into his contacts under "coffee shop girl." she hands his phone back to him and he smiles at the contact name.

"by the way, i'm y/n."

"hoseok."
