6 months later...

"i can't believe you did that!" my mother shouted at shawn from across the table. "i've loved him since i was a teenager!"

we all laughed as we sipped on our half empty, third glasses of wine after finishing our dinner. i'd gone all out for this dinner, a full three course meal. it was an important day for both shawn and i. today is the day he met my parents...formally.

"he's a really great guy, mrs. McCleod. next time he's in toronto i could set up something for you two to meet." he said, more asking a question than delivering a statement.

"oh my gosh! would you? i don't want it to seem like i'm taking advantage of my daughters famous boyfriend." she winked at shawn. "and call me sue, dear. no need to be that posh." she laughed.

"not quite famous yet but thank you mrs—uh, sue." he laughed lightly as he corrected himself and i rubbed the back of his hand lightly. "and think of it as me taking advantage of being almost famous."

my mom smiled from ear to ear and let out a little squeal before turning to my father.

he smiled lovingly down at her before turning his gaze to me. he smiled and gave a nod which i knew meant his approval of shawn. this caused me to beam back at him.

i turned and looked at my handsome boyfriend who sat next to me blabbering away with my mother.

everything was perfect. this moment is perfect.

i leaned up and pecked shawn's cheek with my lips which brought his attention from my mother to me. i looked up at him, love sparkled in his eyes as he met my gaze. he smiled and kissed the top of my head and squeezed me closer to him.

my parents exchanged awe's and we sat there enjoying each other's company and exchanging stories.

"well thank you for the lovely dinner, dear. and shawn, it was great getting to finally meet you." my dad said after he got his coat and shoes. he shook shawn's hand and gave me a hug and a kiss before helping my slightly too drunk mother get her heels on.

"love you hunny!" she said while giving me a huge hug. "and shawn, don't be a stranger! call, text, or come over anytime. you're always welcome." she gave him a quick kiss on the cheek and he gave her a hug. "oh hunny," she said as she gripped shawn's bicep, "don't let go of this one." she said winking at me before exiting with my father.

i laughed and shawn blushed, i walked over and wrapped my arms around his waist, he pulled me in tight. we waved goodbye to my parents as they walked down the hallway before reentering my and shawn's now shared condo and closing the door.

i sighed and looked at the large pile of dishes that sat on our counter.

"i wash, you dry?" shawn said as he rolled up the sleeves of his white dress shirt. i nodded and walked over to the sink.

we stood beside each other, shawn washing the dishes, rinsing them, and then handing them off to me to dry and put away.

low and quiet music played in the background as we washed.

"you're parents are amazing." shawn said genuinely.

"they're great." i said smiling as i washed a dinner plate, "you're lucky dads softened up in his old age and him being a grandpa and all. some of my past boyfriends haven't been treated so nicely."

shawn nodded slowly, "that or — i'm just the best boyfriend you've ever had and even he, the intimidating marine vet liked me as soon as he met me." he said pointing at me, "or maybe he plans on killing me and he's just softening me up now so i don't suspect anything."
