17: breakfast again

☆☆

Delilah woke up the next morning, a blissful smile on her face. After the constant questions from Taylor about what happened, she fell asleep pretty late.

She slowly rolled over in bed, hands roaming her nightstand in search of her phone. Eventually she found it, along with a text.

I had a great time last night
love. Greatly enjoyed the ending.

I can truthfully say
that I did as well.

Knew you would (;

A light pink blush fell on her cheeks as she stretched her arms out, pops sounding throughout her body. With a loud groan, she got out of her bed and padded softly into the living room. The bright sunlight was streaming through the windows, bathing the room in a soft glow.

Around the same time, Taylor came out, dressed in pink Minnie Mouse pajamas that rivaled Delilah's Scooby-Doo pajama pants.

"Mornin'," Taylor grumbled, rubbing the sleep out of her eyes.

"Good morning," Delilah said, a little too cheery for Taylor's taste.

"Mmm, too loud," she responded, coming over to where Delilah was standing and wrapping her arms around her. "You're warm."

"Why, thank you," Delilah joked. She pulled away from Taylor, going into the kitchen.

Taylor followed, pushing herself onto the counter. "You and Lucifer gonna hang out today?"

Delilah thought for a moment. Lucifer did ask her to breakfast last night. "I hope s-"

Delilah's sentence was cut off by a knock at the door. She immediately knew who it was just by the pattern of his knock. She was slightly ashamed at her attire and she knew Lucifer was going to make some cheeky comment.

Delilah came from the kitchen and went to the front door, unlocking it and opening it. The Devil himself was standing there, his normal three piece suit on, this one being a dark blue. "Good morning, Delilah. Taylor."

He came into the room, but that's when Delilah noticed he had his hands hidden behind his back. "Whatcha hiding there?" She asked with a smirk.

Lucifer showed a sheepish grin before showing the two the small bouquet of sunflowers. Delilah gasped, cheeks blushing as they always did with the sweet gestures. She ran over, taking the sunflowers from his hand, giving a small peck on his cheek. When she pulled away, he slightly pouted, hoping that he would receive a kiss on his lips.

Quickly, Delilah found a glass vase under the sink and filled it with a little bit of water. She gingerly placed the sunflowers in the water before setting the vase on the coffee table in the living room.

"You're the best, Lu," Delilah said, coming back over. Lucifer's eyes followed her all the way until she stood in front of him. He practically towered over the small woman but she didn't seem to care.

Carefully, she stood on her tiptoes, faces meeting the other. Hesitantly, the two moved closer until their lips touched, moving together in what Delilah could only describe as 'a perfect harmony'.

"Okay, you guys are cute and all, but it's way too damn early for this lovey-dovey stuff," Taylor grumbled, hopping off the counter and trudging back to her room.

Delilah pulled away with a soft giggle, one that made Lucifer's heart beat 10 times faster.

"You're mesmerizing, Delilah," Lucifer randomly blurted out, watching as she moved to the kitchen with graceful movements. She turned around to look at him with the brightest smile on her face. "Truly."

"Shush you big dork," Delilah responded with a laugh. "Say, do you wanna go out for breakfast?"

"I would absolutely love that, my dear."

Delilah and Lucifer were now set in a small restaurant, both sat in a corner booth in the main back of the restaurant. The two wanted to sit next to each other, and that had been the only option, even if it meant a group of people coming back from church had to push tables together.

The ME had changed into a black tank top tucked into a pair of high-waist shorts, and a gray cardigan to cover her pale arms.

The two were talking about anything and everything, as they had been for the past few days, though they never seemed to run out of things to talk about. Each day, they found a new topic that they'd ramble for hours and hours on until someone changed it. That was what Delilah loved about hanging out with Lucifer. There was just so much pleasantness.

Delilah hadn't lived an easy life, to say the least. There was a lot of buried trauma she didn't talk about often. She moved to Los Angeles for a new start, a new life, happiness. And at first, she hadn't found it. But she definitely had it now.

"What are you thinking about, hun?" Lucifer asked, placing a warm hand on her knee. He looked to her face to see any sign of discomfort with the gesture, but when he found none, he kept it there, occasionally squeezing it.

Delilah looked up at Lucifer. "I'm just happy, y'know? Finally. I-I mean I'm 32. I've just been looking for any sliver of happiness. I thought I had it a few years ago but now I know I really, truly have it."

A soft, genuine smile came to Lucifer's face, matching Delilah's own. "If you're happy, I'm happy."

And that was the truth. Lucifer had found himself wanting to do everything in his power to make the girl in front of him happy. He was truly happy with Delilah. Something he hadn't felt in a while. His father cast him out so early in his life. Hell made him colder and he only came to Earth for a vacation. He didn't expect to find a woman so enrapturing and so beautiful.

And while that excited him, it terrified him. He wondered if Delilah had been sent here by his father, such as Chloe had been. Though, what he had with Delilah was so much deeper. He'd die before he let his father manipulate him. What he had with the woman felt real.

She was so innocent, and so beautiful. He couldn't show her who he really was. No, she'd be petrified. She'd run. And he couldn't lose her. No, he wouldn't lose her.

Delilah must've noticed the shift in Lucifer's face as his emotions turned from bliss to sorrow. She didn't ask him what had been troubling him.

Instead, she wrapped her small arms around his muscular frame, laying her head on his chest. Lucifer could've stayed like that for years.
