"Friday. My favorite day of the week." I think to myself as I get ready for school. It's starting to get colder out so Jamie takes Laurance and I to school everyday, which means I don't have to get up as early.

As soon as I have my uniform on, I walk down stairs to the kitchen for breakfast. "Hey Jamie." I say when I walk into the kitchen. "Good morning." I my bowl of cereal and sit to him at the table. "How are you?" I ask, starting to eat. "I'm good. I don't have to work today. How about you?"

I swallow my food then answer, "It's Friday so I'm great." Which Jamie laughs at.

"Laurance says he doesn't need a ride today." Jamie says after a moment of silence. "He sick?" I ask and he just nods his head.

"Well I hope starts to feel better soon." I say. "It's gonna be weird without him at school today."

We get in Jamie's car and he takes me to the school. The whole ride there is silent.

My phone begins to vibrate on my desk beside me. "Who's calling me at midnight?" I ask myself. I grab my phone to see that it's Laurance calling. "Hey." I say as soon as I answer.

"Can we talk?" Laurances asks, not even bothering to say hello. "Umm. Yeah." I say with a hint of confusion in my voice. "What's up?"

"So you know how the other day, " he start. "I said that I'm home by myself most of the time?"

"Yes."

"Did I ever tell you why we moved to Phoenix Drop?" Laurance asks after a moment. "I don't think so." I answer after thinking for a second. "Well we moved here so I could finish high school at a decent school."

"My dad still works in Metali so it's rare I see him at all. I know I said that I was fine with being alone all the time but," he pauses for a moment and I hear him sniffle. "I really miss seeing my dad everyday."

"I get that." I say in an attempt to comfort him. "I haven't seen my dad since I was five."

"I know that." he says, with a hint of annoyance in his voice. "I'm just trying to tell you that I understand what its like to miss seeing your dad." I defend myself. "I'm sorry if that came out wrong to you."

"What do you mean?" he asks. "You sounded annoyed when I said that."

"I'm sorry." Laurance apologizes. "Today hasn't been to good."

"What happened?" I ask. "It's not that anything that happened today." he pauses for a while. "It's just that my mom died 12 years ago today." Once those words leave his mouth I can hear him start full on crying. "And my dad wasn't even home with me today."

"Laurance." I start tearing up. "Why didn't you tell me earlier?"

"I thought he would come home and besides, you had school." He says. "I couldn't have stopped you from going to that."

"You wouldn't have to stop me from going." I say. "I would've have chosen too."

"Anyways, it's just Friday. Not like I would be missing much." I say in an attempt to cheer him up a little.

"That's true." Laurance says and I can basically hear him start to smile a little. "I did it." I think to myself.

"I need to get to sleep. Can we talk more tomorrow?" I ask and we agree to talk tomorrow in person. We say goodnight and I go to sleep.
