This chapter is going to have lots of cringe. I warned you.

We reclimb the small ladder to the fort and sit down in the small circular part, a few feet across from each other.

"So?" He says. I take a deep breath. I start to tell him everything except about my boss and about what I do. Everything pours out like water being released from a dam. I feel my eyes start to tear up but I continue on.

"I'm sorry." He says. I can feel the sincerity in his voice. "I'm sorry that you felt that way, and that I ignored it," I say. I cross my legs and look down. "I really am sorry. But my world is falling apart and I don't know what to do." I say.

I hear him shuffle around, and I look up to see him across from me. "I'm still kind of mad at you, but I'm sorry for what I said." He says. He looks down at my arms. "You shouldn't do that." He says and I sigh. "Promise you won't?" He asks.

I hesitate before I nod. Suddenly, he jerks on my shirt collar really hard, making me fall towards him. He pulls me up just in time to make my lips meet his. His grip loosens around my collar a little bit. I close my eyes, unsure of what to do.

He lets go of my shirt and grabs my face, pulling me closer as if he hasn't had enough. He wraps his legs around my waist and I finally give in. I push back and grab the back of his head, unintentionally messing up his hair. He pulls away and looks at me. "Promise me." He says once again.

I nod. "Okay." He says, pulling me back to where we were, this time his tongue seeking entrance that I gladly give. He pulls his legs back and tries to over-power me, shoving me to the plastic flooring of the fort. "Eli, stop," I say breathlessly. "Okay." He says, placing a peck on my neck.

"Mommy! What're they doing up there?" We hear a child's voice from below. We both turn and see a little girl with her mom. "Oh my gosh!" She yells as she covers the girl's eyes. "How dare you do that in public?" Her face is pale and Eli's turns bright red. He jumps off of me. "I'm sorry ma'am! It's not what it looks like!" He says quickly. I sit up and look at the girl, who's fighting against her mother's hands.

"What're you gonna do?" I say irritably, mad that they ruined it. "How about you do us a favor, and screw off?" I say rudely and her mouth falls open. Eli looks at me as if to tell me to shut up. I shrug. "I'm gonna call the cops if you don't leave right now!" She screams. Eli and I look at each other before we both silently climb down the ladder. "See you, Karen," I say before we start running away laughing.

We make it out of the park and to the sidewalk just outside of it. We both laugh as we try to catch our breath.

My phone buzzes and I pull it out. "Johnis is in trouble." From Boss. "Eli, we have to go. Right now." I say quickly. "What? Why?" He says, confused. "Johnis is in trouble," I say and his eyes widen. We both start running towards the school, hoping to find something. I stop by a house we almost pass by. I look in the window. Boards? "What is it?" Eli says, turning around to face me.

"We should go in here," I say, pointing to the house. "No way. That place is creepy as crap. We're looking for Johnis remember?" He says. "It's a gut feeling. Johnis is in here." I say. He sighs. "No." He says. "Fine, I'm going in then," I say.

"Well, I can't let you go in there alone." He says, sighing again. I smile as I open the gate to the house and walk to the porch. I knock on the door, and everything stops. The door cracks open just a little bit and the same sweet aroma from earlier leaks out.

"Yes?" I hear a small voice say. I look to see Serena staring back at me. Without thinking, I kick the door in, hitting her with it as I barge in, Eli right behind me. "Where's Johnis?" I say aggressively. "What? We canceled our date, so I don't know why he would be here." She says. The aroma gets stronger.

"Sure, Sweetpea. Show me where Johnis is, and no one gets hurt." I say, taking a step towards her. She laughs. "So you know that I'm lying huh?" She says. I grab her by the throat and slam her against the wall, hard, as my dad did to me. She gasps for a second. "If you don't tell me where he is, I'm going to send thousands of volts of electricity into my hand and explode your head." I threaten firmly. I start to send electricity into my hand, stopping at my wrist.

"Okay okay! He's in the bedroom! Let me show you." She says loudly. 'Don't trust her.' I think, hoping Eli can hear it. I drop her and she gasps for air. "This way." She says as she points to another room.

I hurry to that other room and see Johnis sprawled out on the bed, unconscious. I hear her laughing behind me. "You know, the funny thing about talent is," She says, and her voice echos and I feel my throat starting to close. "Is that it can be distributed through a single touch." She giggles.

I feel my abilities start to heal it faster than it can be distributed. "Another funny thing is," I say, sending electricity through my body. "That you don't need to be close for it to work," I say, turning and shooting thousands of volts at her, hitting her directly in the chest. I let up and see a hole in her chest and a shocked look on her face.

"Your poison may work on the average human, but not me sweetheart," I say. I turn back to Johnis and drag him off the bed. I walk past her, dragging Johnis. I see Eli looking shocked. "She won't die. It's just going to buy us enough time to get out of here." I say. Relief washes over his face. "Help me get Johnis." I say.
