By the river was a cave. It was only small, but it was incredibly deep, however despite it's size it seemed to loom over Alex. He seemed like a timid child under the archway, as if it was an angry parent screaming and looming over him.

"Alex." George breathed in relief.

"Please don't be mad. I'm sorry. I tried, I really did, I'm sorry." He whispered, curling his hands close to his head as he folded into himself.

"No one's mad at y' pet." Will murmured. "Just c'mere. You're fine."

"But I failed." He whispered, but slowly moved towards the group.

"That's good though, you wouldn't be here otherwise, yeah?" Stephen smiled lightly, but it never reached his eyes.

As soon as he could, Stephen wrapped his arms around Alex, cradling his head close as if he was a baby. Will rubbed his back, mumbling softly to the smaller boy as he began to sob into Stephen's jumper. George carded his fingers through Alex's hair, sighing softly as he did so.

"James wanted me to fail, I'm sorry, please, I really did try. Please don't hate me."
