I had left to my room after my conversation with Slenderman. I paced around, trying to think of possibilities as to why my father left Slenderman, and all his duties as the proxy, behind. The only thing I could think of was my mom. My father must have met my mother and joined the human world again to be with her. It was the only explanation, based upon what I knew. I just wish my father would've told me about everything before he died. Why did he have to die damnit! "If it wasn't for that son of a bitch drunk driver, he would've still been alive, my mother would've still been alive, I would've still had a family. I wouldn't be stuck here in this foreign world full of a bunch of mental freaks!" I hadn't noticed Jeff had slipped in unnoticed.
"Mental freaks, huh? I didn't think you thought that highly of me," he said with sarcasm. He sounded hurt. "N-no Jeff, I didn't mean it, I-"
"You what?" Jeff said, crossing his arms. "I..." I muttered. "That's what I thought, you have nothing to say," Jeff turned and started walking down the hall.
"Jeff please wait," I ran after him. He had went out the front door and slammed it behind him. I followed, and looked over to the couch to Ben, who had a look of confusion plastered on his face. I ignored him and ran out the door. Jeff was no where in sight. I followed the trail that lead to the forest where the well was.
I saw the well, then Jeff. He was chucking rocks at trees. "Jeff," I said hesitantly. He ignored me, and continued throwing rocks. "Jeff please," I tried again. He stopped and peeked over his shoulder. "What?" he said gruffly. "Jeff please hear me out." He turned around and looked at me, crossing his arms again. "I'm listening," he said. "Jeff, I-I.. I didn't mean what I said, I just," I sighed. "I'm just so stressed out. I feel like I don't even know who I am anymore. I feel like my whole life, my identity, has just been hidden from me my entire life. I'm so confused. It just can't be a coincidence that you brought me here without knowing I was the proxy."
"That's because it's not, Skyler." I looked at him in confusion. "I knew you were the proxy. That's why I said you had potential." I was shocked. "Then why did you tell Slenderman that it was just a coincidence that you found me?" He sighed. "Skyler, that is because... I wanted to protect you. Being a proxy comes with many difficult tasks that one cannot do alone. I suppose I'm sort of your guardian," he laughed. "..Why do you want to protect me? What's so great about me?" Jeff looked down. "That is for me to know and you to find out when the time is right." "Is the time right now?" I looked into his eyes. They were so beautiful. "Not even close," he smirked. He looked into my eyes, and his face turned serious. He reached his hands up to my jaw and caressed my cheeks with his thumbs. He brought our faces closer, hesitating a moment, before kissing me lightly. His lips were warm and soft. He let go of the kiss for a moment to look at me, and then proceeded to kiss me again, this time deeper and more passionate. We held the kiss for what felt like decades, but I didn't mind. We finally broke away and looked into each others eyes. "Your eyes are beautiful, you know," I said. "You're beautiful, you know," Jeff smiled. I blushed and looked down, then hugged him.
I'm falling fast,
God I hope this lasts,
I'm falling fast for you
