"Thank you." I whispered, hugging Hayes a little tighter.
He returned the favor, holding me so close my feet left the ground. Tanned arms held up my body as Hayes spun me around the room.
"Hayes! Put me down!" I laughed, slightly scares he would drop me.
After a while, I was set down but his hands still held my arms.
"Let's do something fun." he spoke.
"Like what?" I asked.
"I'll show you around town!" Hayes shouted, obviously proud of his idea.
"Yes! That's perfect considering you've only been here like four days." he continued. "Plus it's Saturday so everything should be open."
"Showing me around it is then."
"Well are you going to get dressed?" he asked, wondering why I was still standing there.
Looking down I realized I was still in my clothes from yesterday. I looked up, embarrassed, before running upstairs.
I headed towards my closet, selecting dark wash high waisted shorts and a purple pastel crop top. Quickly throwing on my vans, I sped to my vanity. Looking in the mirror I was horrified by how smudged yesterday's makeup was. I couldn't believe Hayes had seen me like this.
Grabbing a makeup wipe, a removed all the dark smudges, then replacing them with new concealer and eye makeup. I hurriedly brushed my hair, deciding to leave it natural, before coming to the conclusion that I was ready.
I placed my phone in my pocket before for going to meet Hayes.
"Ready?" he asked.
Nodding, he took my hand leading my out the door.
"The town's pretty small so we can pretty much walk everywhere." Hayes explained.
"That's good to know." I said, holding his hand a little closer when a slight breeze passed.
It processed that Hayes was, yet again, holding my hand. 'It's ok, just don't get attached. It's just a friendly gesture.' I thought.
"So, where's the first stop?" I asked, trying to keep my mind off of it.
"The park, it's just down the street."
"Oh okay... Why do you always hold my hand?" I blurted out.
Realizing what I just said, my free hand came to my mouth as I looked at him with wide eyes.
"Oh, I could stop if you, um, if you wanted." Hayes said, his smile faltering.
"No! No. I mean you don't have to if you, you know, if you didn't want to. I was just wondering is all, 'cause let's be real, we've only known each other for four days. It's not like we're dating or anything." I said, slightly laughing as an attempt to cover up the awkwardness.
"Yeah. No, you're right. It's just I thought it would help calm you down."
"It does in a way, but you don't have to do it if you don't want to."
"Well if it's okay with you, I think my hand is comfortable just where it is."
"Okay" I said, looking down to cover my blushing.
After a short more distance of walking, Hayes informed me we were at the park.
"There's nothing much to see, it's just a nice place to hang out." he clarified.
Before I had time to properly look around, Hayes was taking me off to the next destination.
"This is like our little town square, I guess you could say." he said as we walked up to a mass of different shops.
"Do you want some breakfast?" Hayes offered.
"Sure, just get me whatever. Im just going to go to the bathroom." I said, locating the public restrooms.
"Okay, meet me at a table." he said before walking away.
I headed towards the bathrooms, stepping into the women's. When I was finished, I walked out looking around for Hayes.
I started walking when I felt someone touch my butt.
"Nice ass bitch! Maybe you could give me a better view at my place!"
I turned around to see a strange teenage boy smirking at me.
"Stop, please stop." I said getting highly uncomfortable and nervous.
"Come on, you can't pass this up." he said grabbing me arm.
"Let go of me!" I yelled.
The boy refused to let go and began to pull me towards himself.
"Excuse me, I believe she told you to let go." I heard another voice say.
I turned to see another boy, quite cute in my opinion.
"Come on man, we're just messing around." the creep 'explained'.
"Alright, knock it off before I call the cops." the other boy threatened.
With that, the extremely rude boy ran off.
Turning to him, I thanked the other boy.
"No problem. It's not right for him to treat you like that. I'm Shawn by the way." he responded.
"Shanley." I shyly responded.
"So you sure you're okay?" Shawn began to ask before Hayes interrupted.
"What's going on?" Hayes questioned.
"It's fine Hayes, he was just helping me."
"Well I could of helped you! Come on." he said grabbing my arm.
"Sorry." I said to Shawn before Hayes pulled me away.
As we came to the table Hayes had chosen, we both sat down.
"What's your problem Hayes?" I asked rather annoyed.
"I could've helped you if you asked me." he mumbled.
"You weren't there! Someone was being rude and Shawn stood up for me!" I defended.
"Oh so you're on a first name basis within a few minutes, great." Hayes rolled his eyes.
"Grow up Hayes!"
"It's not my fault you go around flirting with every boy you see!"
"Bye Hayes." I sated before getting up and walking away.
"Wait! Shanley come back!" he called after me, but I wasn't having it.
I made my way back home from what I remembered from our walk. Tears slowly made their way from my eyes, pooling up around my chin.
My the time I made it to my house, my vision was blurry due to the countless tears.
I opened the front door to find a surprise. There stood my mother and three siblings.
