"Shanley!" Eddie yells, running into my arms.
"What's going on?" I question, a confused look drawn on my face as I hug my brother.
"Well we have something to tell you." my mother spoke.
I set down Eddie and lead them to the family room. Everyone sat down before we continued the conversation.
"Does Dad know you're here?" I asked, assuming he wouldn't be too happy his ex-wife randomly arrived at his house.
"Yes, he know we're here. He already knows the news, couldn't take time off of work to be here." Mom rolled her eyes.
"So what's the news?"
"I have breast cancer." she simply replied.
"You what?!?" I screamed.
I may hate my mother, but I would never wish cancer on her. No matter how bad of a mom she is, she didn't deserve cancer.
"How long have you known?" I started to tear up.
"I found out an hour after you left."
"Well why didn't you call?"
"I felt this needed to be said in person. We just got time to come down and tell you."
"How bad is it?" I asked, now full on crying.
"Well, they caught it later then they would have liked to. It's already up to stage two."
"Are you going to be okay?" continuos questions filling my head.
"It's not likely I'll recover." Mom said, looking down.
"I can't take this." I ran passed her and my siblings, out of the house.
I needed somewhere to go. The lake was too close, they would most likely find me. Hayes is mad at me, so I couldn't go to his house. The only other place I could think of was the park.
Running down the street, I tried to recall the way Hayes took me less then an hour ago. After a short amount of running, I arrived at the park.
I slowly walked to the swings, my foot steps heavy. Reaching one of the four swings, I sat down. All these thoughts ran through my head.
What was going to happen to our family? How long does my mom have? Will my siblings have to move in if she dies?
I was crushed at the realization. The whole reason I moved in with my dad was to get away from everything. If my siblings moved all the peace and quiet would leave and the craziness would return.
I started to cry again as reality set in. Just as I was starting to get used to life in North Carolina, it could all possibly change in the blink of an eye.
More and more tears came, starting to pool near my chin. My eyes were no longer clear, but instead had been washed in a foggy film. Sniffling slightly, I attempted to wipe the tears.
"Are you okay." I heard, the voice startled me also causing me to fall off the swing.
"Oh my God, I'm sorry." the voice said again as I felt two pairs of arms help me up.
Looking up, I saw a set of familiar faces. It was Nash and Shawn.
"Hey I know you. You're the girl from the food courts." Shawn said."Yeah, that was me." I shyly responded, rather embarrassed by my appearance.
"Shanley are you okay?" Nash asked, obviously noticing I was crying.
"Um, yeah, I guess. Just some family drama."
"Well do you want us to walk you home?" Shawn asked.
"No! No. Sorry, I just, I can't go home right now."
"Did you want to come over then?" Nash questioned.
"Is Hayes there?" I asked, worried he would be mad if I showed up with Nash and Shawn.
"No, he went to our mom's for a while. Said he needed to get away for a bit."
I was a bit saddened by this, seeing as though it's my fault.
"Then yeah, if it's okay with you. That would be great." I forced a smile.
"It all makes sense now, it was Hayes with Shanley earlier. I knew I recognized him." Shawn muttered to himself, causing me to laugh.
"Well anyways, let's get going." Nash said, slightly laughing as well.
We walked to the edge of the park before crossing the street. Walking a bit farther down, we came to Nash's house.
Stepping inside, the air conditioning shocked my body due to the scorching heat outside.
Once he were all in, Nash shut the door. Following the door closing, a voice rang from upstairs.
"Nash is that you?" And I recognized that voice to be Hayes.
