"Oh- Hey, Lance! Are you, uh, feeling better?"
Lance turned around at the sound of his name, somewhat surprised to see Keith standing there. He wore an expression that resembled a breathless smile, like he had run up to Lance and was trying to control his breathing. Lance forced a smile, ignoring the uneasy feeling in his gut.
"Yeah, I am," he lied.
"That's good," Keith replied, smile dropping a little. "It would be even better if you didn't lie, though." Lance stiffened.
How did he...?
He snapped back to reality, seeing Keith's expression. He was still smiling, but that face was bordering on... Disappointment?
"I, uh," Lance stammered, caught completely off guard. "Yeah, my mind is still a little bit frazzled, haha..." He coughed, forcing a small smile to ease the awkwardness.
Keith's smile appeared right back, and Lance blinked slightly, taken aback at how this boy practically sparkled. He felt a light blush creep onto his cheeks and he looked away quickly.
"So," Keith quickly said, "did you do the science homework?"
Lance let himself slowly ease into the small talk as he and the other boy walked to their next class, which, coincidently, they had together. Things were okay. Things were normal.
They stayed normal for a while.
