A short blurb where Y/N struggles with her mental health and despite not wanting to need anyone, she needs Cameron.
Her body is frozen before the lengthy mirror that leans upon the bedroom wall. Her pale eyes that have become glossed over with tears are glued to the glass, staring blankly at the reflection of her motionless body. A single tear rolls down her cheek and crashes against the cold hardwood floor, but she does not have the motivation to wipe away the damp trail that it had left behind. The dark room that she stands within is empty and cold, and the somber atmosphere makes it difficult to believe that anyone could have been living within these walls. However, she had been buried beneath the comfort of the bed sheets for the past three days, her eyes fixated upon the tiles on the ceiling.
She is not always like this. In fact, there are many days that she is not familiar with her internal battles. There are days that her belly will shake from laughter, her eyes will glisten with excitement, and her smile will radiate with bliss. There are nights that she will crawl into her bed with a sense of peace consuming her, and all will feel right with the world.
But mental health is an ongoing journey and it is one that wavers with each day that passes. There are days that she will sit in silence, unable to mutter a single word without completely falling apart. There are days that she will strive to shut out the world around her, for all she wishes is to have an escape. There are consecutive days where she will struggle to take care of herself, for she cannot find the motivation to place food into her stomach or enter into the shower. There are days where she strives to turn off her brain, as she is desperate for an escape from the thoughts that consume her. There are days where she is a prisoner to her own mind.
She knows that she is resilient, and she is aware of the strength within her to overcome life's adversities. She has never wanted to depend on anyone, for she recognizes that it is only her that can create her own happiness. She has never wanted to need someone, so she strives to conceal the demons within her own mind.
But Cameron loves her with every piece of his heart, which means that he knows her better than she knows herself at times. So two days ago, when Cameron returned backstage after finishing his scene, he was startled by the sight of her name blinking across the screen on his phone. She knows better than to contact him whilst he's on set, for it is obvious that he would not carry his phone on him. Pressing his thumb onto the green button, Cameron was instantly greeted by the sound of her deep breaths resounding through his ear.
"What's wrong?" Cameron anxiously questioned, for he could instantly recognize that something was not right with his girlfriend. He pressed his finger onto the lobe of his other ear, striving to block the noise surrounding him so he is better able to focus on her voice. Cameron's manager prompted him to return to the stage, but when Cameron lifted his hand towards him, he successfully conveyed the message that the call was essential. "Y/N, what's going on?"
It was then four words that left her mouth. Cameron knew that his girlfriend struggled and he had always strived to be a support for her through these times, even if she was adamant that she did not need him to be. But when her quiet and trembling voice whispered these four words into the phone, Cameron's priorities instantly changed.
"Cameron, I need you."
And two days later, here she is, crawling back into the security of her bed. Despite his desperate attempts to reach her, the only contact that she has made with Cameron since the call was through a simple text message. She fears that she has no further tears to try, or perhaps she has just become numb to the ache within her. She cannot identify a specific place where it hurts, for the pain lingers within every part of her, and she worries that it will never fade.
And then the door of the bedroom gently opens, and she can hear the sound of heavy footsteps enter into the bedroom. She listens to the sound of a bag being rested upon the floor before watching articles of clothing fall onto the ground. She can instantly recognize them as clothes that belong to him, but she is fearful to turn and be disappointed. She feels the presence of an individual enter into the bed, causing the cold space beside her to become filled with warmth. Two arms then wrap around her, drawing her into his warm embrace and causing their naked skin to press against one another. Inhaling his familiar scent, she feels her shoulders deflate in relief.
She abruptly spins her body, finding her face only inches away from that of her love. He stares at her through his glistening brown eyes, and he allows the smallest smile to flicker on his mouth. She strives to say something, but no words are able to fall from her mouth. A single tear spills from her eyes, which is then followed by a constant flow of waterworks. Having Cameron with her feels as if the weight of the world has been removed from her chest, and she is no longer able to conceal the pain that she has been burying within her.
She buries her face into his neck, and he clasps his right arm around her back while his other hand reaches to cup her face, his thumb gently caressing her cheek. She can feel her chest heaving as she strives to re-gain her breath, prompting Cameron to press his lips against her forehead.
"I'm here now," Cameron whispers. "It's okay, baby. I'm here."
Cameron begins to draw circles on her back with his hand - something that she has always found comfort in. At the same time, he continues to caress her cheek, allowing silence to fill the room while she regains her composure.
"I'm not okay, Cameron," she eventually whispers through her heavy breaths.
Cameron does not say a single word, but continues to wait until her breathing slowly regulates. He gently peppers the side of her face with his kisses, pressing his lips against the tears that are spilling down her cheek.
"I know, baby," Cameron eventually replies. "But it's okay to not be."
"I'm so sorry," she mumbles, closing her eyes and shaking her head as a feeling guilt washes throughout her. She knows that Cameron had to cancel a few of his shows to be with her, and she cannot imagine all the fans heartbroken due to her. "I really did not want to need you."
She can feel Cameron's curly locks brush against her neck as he shakes his head in argument. "We all need help sometimes," Cameron reassures her. "I can't take your pain away, Y/N, but I will be here with you through it."
She fights the feeling of her weary eyes growing heavy. "Cam?" she whispers.
"Mhm?" he asks, also revealing his fatigue through his dazed voice.
"Do you think I'm going to be okay?" she asks, curiously.
A tiny chuckle falls from his mouth, for he is absolutely certain in the words that are about to leave his mouth. "Brighter days are coming, my love. I promise."
