The crowd cheered and whistled for him as he took a quick bow. He exited the stage quickly and made his way over to Camila.
"Come here." She said sternly and pulled him through the back door towards Hector's office.
Shawn studied her face with a worried expression. "Mila, what is it?! You are freaking me out."
It was her turn to study him. She placed her hands on his cheeks and tried to look for any sign.
He placed his hands over hers and lowered them. "Please."
"That song...it is beautiful."
Shawn blushed. "That means the world coming from you."
She looked into his eyes and said, "Why?"
"Are you serious? I trust your opinion more than anyone. You know that."
"Did you write it...for a specific reason?" She asked stepping closer to him.
He felt dizzy for some reason. Should he confess? What about her happiness with Austin? This could ruin their friendship...that is if she felt the same way, which seemed highly unlikely.
"Shawn?" She whispered pulling his face down so it was closer to hers. "Austin wants us to move to L.A."
Their lips were so close that they could feel the breath of the other.
"What?" He asked softly.
"That producer wants him to record a demo." She said, her lips grazing his ever so gently.
"What about you?"
She let out a light chuckle. "Well, I think we both know I blew that chance."
"He just needs to see you again."
She smiled. "You are always so optimistic. It makes you special."
"Maybe if I go to L.A."
"If?"
She pressed her lips to his softly and kissed him gently. "Come with us to L.A."
Shawn slowly shook his head. "I can't leave here."
"He's gone, Shawn." She said as tears trickled down her cheeks.
"I belong here." He said then softly kissed her cheek where the tear drop had fallen. He did the same to her other cheek.
"Then I will stay here."
"He makes you happy. You should be with him."
She moved her lips closer to his again. "It's just...sometimes it feels like...maybe...with us..."
"How do you feel about recording your own demo in L.A.?"
Her face lit up and she smiled happily.
He smiled. "You have to do what makes you happy."
"What about what makes you happy?"
He smiled. "Knowing your happy is all I will ever need. I promise you."
"What kind if an answer is that, Shawn?"
"The best I can give."
She gently grazed her lips over his and whispered, "Are you sure?"
He could not think to even say anything. How could he tell her that what makes him happy was her? He would never want to sabotage her relationship or confuse her.
Her lips pressed against his and his body naturally responded by kissing her back. Words were easy to hold back, but he could not control how his body responded to her.
She sighed as they kissed, which drove him crazy. This was far from the childhood kiss they shared on the swings that day.
"Camila?" Austin called out.
Shawn and Camila pushed away from each other. They both appeared a bit shell shocked by the intensity of the kiss and the fact that Austin came back.
"Cam, I'm sorry baby. Are you back here?"
"She's in here!" Shawn cried out.
Camila looked at him in confusion.
Austin quickly opened the door. He couldn't help but give Shawn a nasty look before taking Camila by the hands. "I'm sorry sweetie."
"It's okay."
He then held her face in his hands. "I love you so much, okay?"
"I love you too." She said then hugged him so she could say something to Shawn, but he was gone.
——————-
"Looking back, I think she knew that kissing me was the only way to find out if I felt something."
"Clever girl."
Shawn smiled. "Yeah."
"But something else must have happened because you spent 6 years apart, yes?"
Shawn nodded with a pained expression on his face. "Exactly why our reunion early was awkward and did not go over well."
"I'll boil some more water and you can tell me all about it. Sound good?"
Shawn nodded.
