EMMA

The end of the day is near and I couldn't wait to be home. My phone begins to ring, and I smile at the name.

"Hey babe," I say.

"Eager to talk to me?" Leo says.

I smile, "Why wouldn't I be? I should be headed home shortly, what's for dinner?"

"I'm thinking take out Chinese? Give us a break from cooking, even though that is what for a living," he says.

"Sounds good to me, I will see you in a bit. I love you," I wrap up the conversation so I can just clock out.

"I love you Emma," he replies and I end the call.

Leo is my perfect and loving fiancé, we got engaged three months ago. We had dated 4 years prior, and as cliché as it is, we had a coffee shop love story...literally. We met in a coffee shop while I was still a police officer, and it's been magical ever since.

He is the head chef at a fancy restaurant in downtown LA, so I am lucky he has the night off, because a lot of times I don't see him, but this is our life and I am in love with him.

I clock out, and lock up my office, and of course Ethan mutters out something to me on the way out, "Tell Leo I said hey Emma!"

I roll my eyes, ignoring him, and get to my car to go home.

-

"Babe, I'm home," my raised voice echos through our apartment as I enter.

"Hey beautiful," Leo says walking down the hallways and around the corner to greet me.

He places a kiss on my forehead, "I invited Gray and Charlotte to join us on this crazy Friday night to eat lots of egg rolls and fried rice, is that okay?"

"Of course," I give him a smile. As much as I love Grayson and Charlotte, I really wanted the night with my fiancé, but I stay silent.

"They should be here soon, I already picked up the food," he says walking away to the kitchen.

I decide it's best to get changed out of my work clothes, shower, and into leggings and a hoodie; I didn't care what I looked like to company most of the time.

By the time I got back downstairs to the living area Grayson and Charlotte were already seated at the dinner table.

"Emma!" Charlotte says, standing up to give me a hug. Charlotte is so beautiful; deep brown eyes, light brown hair, and usually a sun-kissed face. Charlotte also happened to be Grayson's girlfriend of three years, they are a great couple, I know she loves him.

I give her a hug back and walk over to Grayson, squeezing him tightly. I had known Grayson longer than his brother, Ethan. I met him my senior year of high school through a mutual friend and we've been friends ever since. Surprisingly, we did have a moment when I started college to try to be something more than we were meant to be; I will always love him and look out for him.

"How are you guys?" I say, taking a seat and fixing a plate of food.

"We're really good," they both say at the same time. I've known Grayson long enough to know when he was lying. I study his face, wondering what was going on.

Leo replies, "We are happy you guys could come over tonight. It has been a while."

"Unfortunately, I do have to leave after I eat, surprise party for a coworker, but I told Grayson he should stay and have some quality time with you two," Charlotte speaks up.

"That's okay, we can definitely babysit Grayson for you," I joke.

"Very funny," Grayson replies.

We eat our dinner, and Charlotte says her goodbyes and heads out.

Leo's phone starts to ring, and he answers it, I wondered who it was.

"Sorry to ruin the party more, but the restaurant is short of staff until closing, so they really need me," he tells Grayson and I after hanging up the phone.

"Well that's okay, always time for more parties later. Grayson and I will take a swim in this pool of rice," I say to Leo, slightly disappointed.

Leo kisses me goodbye and heads out, leaving Grayson and I at the table.

"Grayson, speak. What's wrong?" I urge him to talk to me.

"What do you mean....," he looks away.

"You are a terrible liar, don't try that with me, you should know better. I'm a detective," I smile playfully at him.

He sighs, "Okay, but we may need to move to the couch for everything I am going to tell you."
