Shawn and I were finally out in the streets, the sun was still up and by each step I took, the more faster my heartbeat would increase. The streets were empty and quiet like a ghost town. There were blood stains on the ground and same goes for the walls; The sight of it gave me chills.I felt sick by just looking at the streets that used to be packed with people and now it was empty.

Shawn stopped for a moment and looked at me, "You okay? You look kinda pale..." Shawn took my hand in his.

I gave him an assuring nod, "Yeah, just scared that's all," I said and gulped down hard.

"You sure that you're okay?" He asked me again, squeezing my hand lightly. I was about to speak, but stopped when I saw a body lying on the floor just a few steps away from us. I was about to walk over to the body, but Shawn quickly tugged my arm making me stop in my tracks.

"What if it's a zombie?" Shawn whispered as his lips trembled in fear.

I just rolled my eyes, "Shawn, if that is a zombie," I pointed to the body laying on the floor. "Then we'd obviously be dead by now....." I stated before walking over to the body to inspect it although I felt my stomach twisting at the sight. And as I approached the body, I tried to act all calm, even though deep down I felt like my heart was going to explode from terror.

I stood over the body studying it carefully. It was a women around her 30's, she was covered in blood which made my stomach turn even more, Gosh- it was sickening! How the liquid was still fresh and- Wait! My eyes widened at realization — The blood... The blood wasn't dry, it was still fresh. That means... She was just killed? Or attacked? I looked at Shawn and he tilted his head in question. "What?" He asked as he approached me.

"We need to move fast," I informed him before stepping over the body and continuing to walk."What's wrong?" I heard the boy ask as he stayed back there.

I shut my eyes tightly as I was kinda regretting that I volunteered for this.

A loud cracking noise coming from behind me caused me to flinch. I look over my shoulder to see Shawn taking a deep breath with a metal chair in his hands as the body now had it's head chopped off. What the fuck?

I couldn't help but feel a shiver run down my spine, "Did you chop her head of with that chair?" I asked, looking down at the now headless woman — her neck gushed out with blood."I had to...." Shawn shrugged as he placed the chair down and wiped his hands onto his pants, "You never know if she'd turn into a zombie."

He had a point, but he also made noise which could attract unwanted company.

"Let's keep going," I instructed.

After walking for about 30 minutes, I stopped right in my tracks when I saw a figure with blood stains all over it, ripped off clothing, red bloody eyes and had missing limbs. Ohh my god- I was frozen as I gulped, my eyes never leaving the man who was clearly infected and a zombie."Sha- Shawn?" I called the boy quietly as possible, so I wouldn't end up getting the attention of the figure standing from a distance. "Stay c-calm, okay?" I instructed him with a somewhat shaky voice.

I heard Shawn gulp down hard from behind me. "Is t-that a...a.. zombie..." His lips trembled in fear. "We should...r-run back," He quickly suggested, but I shook my head.

That wasn't happening. If we did, we'd let everyone down and continue to starve in the basement. "We can't run back without any supplies. Let's just make a right turn over there," I pointed to the nearest turn.

I watched Shawn instantly shake his head at my words, "Nope! The turn is like 20 steps away from the zombie..." He exaggerated while pointing at the turn. "Let's go back."

I knew Shawn was scared, but so was I and right now, we don't really have a better plan than taking a risk by making that turn — So I had to make him do it. "Either you like it or not..." I began before quickly adding, "You and I are making that turn, so stop being a damn pussy!" I whisper-yelled the last part at the boy. "This is what we signed up for so suck it up."

He sighed heavily in response. "I did this because I didn't want you going alone."

I hope zombies couldn't run because if they could, we'd obviously be dead before we could make that turn and I don't want that to happen, who would want death? Well, probably my one hair dresser who clearly was obssesed with death and what afterlife would be like. I shook my thoughts away and I looked over at the boy shaking beside me, "Follow my lead, yeah?" I told him before bringing my attention back to the bloody figure standing at a distance. I gulped, hoping this will work. "Be quiet as possible," I said loud enough for the boy following closely behind me.

The Zombie was facing sideways, so I hope he doesn't see us as we make the turn. We got closer to the turn — My eyes focused on the Zombie as I slowly walked my way to the curb. Suddenly my foot stepped on a coca cola can making a loud crackling noise. "Fuck!" I hissed, my eyes widened when the zombie groaned and snapped it's bloody eyes our way.

"Run!" Shawn yelled like a school girl from behind me. The zombie groaned once more and started to speed walk towards us — hunger was visible in his eyes.

Shit! Shit! Shit!

I don't want to die because a Zombie ate my brain like a fucking street taco. Fuck- no!We ran as fast as my legs could go, "Shawn! Hurry up!" I shouted as he was behind me as we ran. We passed the zombie and neared the turn.

The zombie behind us groaned and I turned around to find it steps away from us. I couldn't help but feel as if my heart was about to explode from fear.

The turn was close and my eyes lit up, "We're going to make it!" I exclaimed in a somewhat happy tone. "We're going to-" I lost my balance and tripped. I fell to my knees and my breath hitched at the back of my throat as the ground scraped my skin. "Shit!" I cursed underneath my breath at the impact my knees took.

"Camila!" Shawn shouted. I felt his hands grab my arms as he helped me back onto my feet. He pulled my arm around his neck to help me keep my balance, "Hurry!" He yelled at me as we hurried and made the turn.

A fence was at the end of the road.

I hope zombies can't climb.

Shawn and I started running for our lives — My knees were burning in pain as I did.Once we reached the fence, we started climbing. I took longer to climb over because I was wounded. I struggled as Shawn was already getting down on the safe side. "Take my Hand!" He reached out, helping me get down to the other side as.

We made it over the fence and I immediately fell to my ass — I had to catch my breath. Fuck- I hate running.

"Zombies can't.... C-climb right?" Shawn asked through deep breaths.

I shook my head as I studied the zombie, "I don't think so...." I breathed out and pointed to the zombie which was just continuously rattling the fence trying to get to us. Idiot.

I looked down at my burning knees. "Fuck!" I cussed. It was scratched up pretty bad. Suddenly, Lauren's face popped into my head — before we broke up, she'd always tell me to be careful. She knew I had an uncontrollable thing for tripping over thin air. A smile made its way onto my lips as her sweet green eyes flashed in my mind - I missed looking into them.

"Mila!" Shawn snapped me out of my thoughts. "That thing almost killed us! and you're smiling at it?" Only then, I realized I was smiling directly at the zombie.

I cringed and shook my head, "I zoned out." I pushed myself up, "We need to hurry, it's getting dark." Shawn only nodded.

We walked the empty streets, hoping we don't run into anymore zombies.

"Do you think other people are alive?" Shawn asked out of the blue.

I looked at him, "Yeah..." I trailed off before quickly adding, "I mean look at us we're alive and surviving, right?"

He forced a smile, "I hope you're right."

I hope so too because deep down the thought of my own family being brain eater didn't still well with me. I hope they were fine.

"Finally!" I breathed in relief upon finally seeing a grocery store not too far from us. We jogged our way towards it and quickly entered the store. Shawn locked the doors behind us just to make sure no unwanted company follows us inside.

I held my hand up, signaling Shawn not to do anything further. "We still don't know if we're alone in here..." I said as I held my hand out in front of him, "Give me your shoe."

Shawn furrowed his eyebrows, "Why?" He asked very confusingly.

"I'm going to throw it to create noise, duh!" I rolled my eyes and watched him quickly remove his shoe.

As he successfully removed it, he gave it to me. "Couldn't we use anything else?" He rolled his eyes.

"Shut up and just grab that steel bar on the counter," I instructed and he quickly followed without question. I held the shoe in my hand carefully. I looked at Shawn, "If anything comes, stab that through their head," I said seriously as I pointed to the steel bar in his hand.

He gave me a nod and tightly gripped it.

I quickly aim towards the stack of can-foods before throwing Shawn's shoe at it — and to my surprise, it flew straight towards what I aimed for, the stack of cans fell and rolled everywhere causing a loud rattling sound to occur.

A low deep groan followed after the rattling.

I met Shawn's eyes, silently telling him to get ready to attack. He gripped the steel bar and held it above his shoulder, ready to stab a zombie in the head.

A fat man in a bloody uniform came out through one of the aisles — by his ripped clothing and rotten skin, I could tell he wasn't exactly human. Suddenly, his bloodshot eyes landed on us. He roared loudly and it caused blood to drip from his mouth. Fuck- I gulped down hard. The zombie started speed walking towards us with hungry vicious eyes.

"Hell- no!" Shawn pushed the steel bar into my hands and ran the other way."Shawn!" I yelled at him with wide eyes, but he had already disappeared into one of the aisles. "Fuck!" I cussed underneath my breath and quickly held the steel bar properly above my shoulder, getting ready to stab the zombie through it's head.

I could hear my heart pounding in my chest as the zombie nears me — I built up all the strength I had in me before arching towards it and stabbing it right in the middle of it's forehead. Blood poured out it's forehead and I stumbled backwards.

The zombie collapsed onto the floor and just then, I exhaled deeply. "Fuck- that was close..." I breathed out before rushing to look for Shawn. I checked each aisle and finally found him trembling on the floor.

"It's dead," I announced to him.

He looked up at me, "I'm sorry- I got s-scared... I couldn't do it," He said as he pushed himself off the floor with apologetic eyes.

"It's fine," I assured him and approached him — A bad smell filled the air as I stood next to the boy. I made a face of disgust, "What's that smell?" I asked as I roamed my eyes around to try find the source of the bad smell.

"Uhmmm-" Shawn began. "I might have pooped my pants a little...." He informed me and I instantly push him away.

I pinched the tip of my nose, "Keep your distance, I don't want to smell your poop!" I told him before walking ahead of him. Disgusting!

I grabbed a recycling bag from the counter. "I'll get food and refreshments," I said as I looked at Shawn over my shoulder, "You go find out if they sell any bandaids, antibiotics, and other stuff that might come in handy," I said. "And change your pants they have clothes somewhere," I told him before walking into the food department.

My mouth watered at the sight of food stacked on the shelves. I quickly grabbed tons of can foods and other food that didn't need to be cooked. After filling my bag up, I went over to the drinks. I took note to grab mostly water and some energy drinks.

"Mila! Come over here!" Shawn called, so I quickly rushed to him. He stood in front of a stand that had radios for sale. He met my eyes, "We should on it." Shawn suggested and was about to turn on the radio.

I quickly stopped him, "Not here," I tell him. "It might create noise and attract zombies," I said, taking the radio and tucking it in his recycling bag. "I already got the food and-" I gagged at the smell of Shawn's poop entering my nostrils. "Distance," I push him away.

He gave me a shy smile that had sorry written all over it. Gosh!

I rolled my eyes and looked over at the window, the sun was slowly going down. "We're going to have to stay the night," I said, knowing we won't survive if we leave now since it's almost dark out and we had a better chance walking the deadly streets at day.I hope we get back safe tomorrow.

"I'll go find some pants and a pair of new shoes," Shawn left.
