next day.....

I woke up just before the sun was up. We were leaving in a few minutes and the thing was, I could walk but not properly. I still couldn't put any force onto my right foot. And for Shawn... He obviously couldn't walk. He'll be hopping with one leg the whole way - that doesn't sound like a plan, it sounds like suicide.

I looked at the boy with a busted leg, "I don't think we'll make it back alive. I think you should stay here and I'll go find something that would help us travel faster... Like- like a car..." I sniffled back a laugh when my eyes landed on his injured leg.

"What's so funny?" He asked and rolled his eyes.

I shook my head and laughed, "Sorry, it's just your leg is disgusting," I told him as I looked at his injured leg. Urgh- is it bad that I think it's funny? It looks like a purple loop straw, but the straws were fancy, and well, Shawn's leg wasn't.

"Just go find a car," He shoved a pistol into my hands and hopped his way back to the couch. "Don't die."

I turned the door knob and popped my head out into the hallway to check if it was clear. After seeing there was no zombies, I exited the apartment and shut the door behind me.

I sneak my way to the staircase. It was empty and silent. I cracked the gun and held it up as I slowly descended the stairs. I kept my guard up.

Finally reaching the ground floor, I looked around before walking over to the window. My breath hitched in my throat - zombies were walking everywhere outside. Fuck- I looked behind me and decided to use the backdoor as an escape.

I crawled my way to the backdoor, thinking if I stood up, a zombie would spot me through the window. Reaching the back door, I pushed it open and breathed in relief upon seeing no sign of zombies.

I knew there must be a carpark here somewhere. I speed walked down the street in hopes I would find a car somewhere. I kept walking straight and kept turning my back every few seconds just to make sure a brain eating zombie wouldn't pounce at me.

After what felt like hours of walking, sweat started to drip from my forehead and the sun hitting my skin started to burn - I wish I brought a bottle of water with me. I turned the corner and a black jeep Wrangler was parked in the middle of the street.

I checked my surroundings before approaching the vehicle. I looked inside the vehicle to see nothing but an old book and a wheelchair sitting in the back seat. I scanned the front seats. "Yes!" I exclaimed when I saw the keys were in the ignition switch. I got into the driver's seat and shut the door behind me.

I sat there for a few seconds and ended up facepalming myself. "I don't know how to fucking drive!" I slam my hands onto the steering wheel. "Why the fuck did I just realize this just now? Fuck- I feel so stupid," I muttered. I blame Shawn's leg for distracting me.

I pulled the keys out and tucked them into my pocket. I twisted around in my seat to grab the wheelchair, "This will definitely come in handy," I said with the thought of Shawn's weird leg in my head. Gosh-

Successfully, getting the wheelchair, I shuffled out of the vehicle. I shut the door behind me and started to walk back to the motel where Shawn was. Hell- I feel like I wasted my time. At least I got this cool wheelchair.

Suddenly, a kid jumped out of the bushes causing me to jump. Fuck- My foot. I looked up to quickly study the kid - she looked around the age of 5 and she didn't have any missing limbs nor bloody eyes, so I wasn't sure if she was infected or not.

She was just standing there, probably studying me as well, so I opened my mouth to speak, "Hey, are you okay? I'm not a zombie," I quietly said as I slowly approached the kid.

As I got closer to her, I saw she had brown innocent-colored eyes - She wasn't a zombie. I knelt down so I was on her level. "Are you hurt? Did you get bitten?" I quickly asked.

"Get away- from me!" She hissed with a deep voice.

I stumbled backwards and that's when I notice a huge bite on her thigh. Fuck- she's going to turn.

My hands roamed my sides to find the pistol. "What the fuck-" I couldn't locate the gun.The little girl started to shake uncontrollably. In a blink, a loud gun shot rang and I screamed as blood splattered all over me.

"You okay?"

My heart calmed upon hearing Shawn's voice. Fuck- I looked up and met his eyes, "Shawn, I'm so glad you're here," I told him as I push myself off the ground.

"Zombies were started filling the motel, so I had to leave," He informed me and held his hand out - I took his hand and got off the ground. "Where the hell is your gun?"

"I must've accidentally left it in the car- There's a jeep Wrangler just over there, we should get going," I told him as I pulled open the wheelchair. "Sit," I instructed him.

He sat down and we made our way to the car.

When we neared the car, I pulled the keys out and looked at Shawn, "You'll be able to drive like that, right?" I asked and gestured towards his left leg.

He looked at his leg before giving me a nod.

I helped him into the driver's seat before circling around and getting into shotgun seat. I shoved his wheelchair backseat before shutting the door.

"Let's go."

Shawn turned the keys in the ignition switch, removed the car from park, and finally drown off.Even though Shawn and I were injured, I still feel myself lighting up from happiness - we're alive and on the way back to the basement, where the others are waiting.

After driving for a few minutes and running over zombies here and there, we finally arrived back at the house. As soon as Shawn turned the engine off, I got out to help him out as well."Hurry," I whisper-yelled at the boy.

Successfully helping Shawn out, I wrapped his arm around my neck and guided him back to the house.

"Finally..." I heard Shawn breath out as we reached the basement door.

I quickly knocked on the door a couple times.

"Open up," Shawn said and began to knock on the door as well.
The door swung open and we rushed inside. Shawn closed the door behind us and everyone breathed in relief. They came jogging towards us - Ariana came to hug me, but Lauren came running, putting her arms around me first. "I'm so glad you're okay!" She exclaimed, her hot breath hitting my neck causing a chill to run down my spine.

I wasn't expecting this from her - I wasn't expecting anything at all.

She pulled away and started to scan my body, "Are you hurt anywhere?" She asked and met my eyes again.

My heart was pounding at how she worried - it gave me hope that I could still get a second chance with her. I couldn't speak as she scanned my body, I was in shook to her acting like this after ignoring me for four days.

"Well?" Ariana hugged me causing my moment with Lauren to quickly end. "Are you okay?"I quickly shook my head, "Uh- Just- just my knees and a sprained ankle."

"Oh, my goodness!" Ally gasped loudly. "Shawn? What happened to your leg?" The short girl asked all worried.

Shawn just shrugged, "I jumped out a window," He informed them. "Nothing to serious..." He trailed off before asking, "Anyways, Mila and I got tons of food. Who's hungry?" He dropped the bags to the floor.
