"I mean how hard can this be...."
I started the engine. I placed my hand on the lever, "I mean this is for backwards forwards action, right?" I asked and looked at Normani for answers.
She popped her eyes, "Don't ask me! I don't know how this thing works! I didn't even know that's called a lever! I always called it a dick sick!" She exclaimed.
I furrowed my eyebrows, "A dick stick?" I questioned with confusion.
Normani just waved her hand to dismiss the topic — so I didn't question further about it. I ducked my head down to find the gas pedals. "I'm not sure which pedal is which...." I told the girl sitting beside me.
I heard the girl sigh in response. "We're fucking doomed..." I heard Normani mumble, as I lifted my head back up.
I looked at her before saying, "We're not doomed because I got this." I smiled at her confidently, pushed the lever forward and stepped on the gas pedal.
The vehicle didn't do anything. Normani arched an eyebrow at me, "You definitely got this," She said sarcastically.
"Why aren't we moving?" I asked and tried stepping on a different pedal — upon doing so, the car flew forward in a fast pace.
Normani grabbed the handlebar, "SLOW DOWN!!!" The girl beside me screamed.
I followed Normani's instructions and pressed on the other petal in hopes it would slow the vehicle — upon stepping on it, the car immediately came to an instant stop.
Normani's head slightly collided with the dashboard.
"Yey! I found the breaks!" I exclaimed with a proud smile. I looked at the girl beside me and she was glaring at me, fixing her hair as she did.
I gave her an innocent smile, "This is why seatbelts are important..." I leaned over to put her seatbelt on. After successfully doing so, I smiled at the girl, "Ready?" I asked.
"Drive, Cabello."
I nodded and stepped on the go petal slowly.
The car slowly moved forward, and I smiled proudly. I looked over to Normani and she pushed my face to look back at the road. "Focus!" She told me.
I rolled my eyes and said, "Stop worrying, I'm literally already a pro at this." I slowly added more pressure on the pedal — the speed slowly went up.
Normani rolled her eyes, "Driving at the speed of 30 is a pro for you?" She snorted. "We're gonna reach Heidi in 4 days if you don't speed up," Normani said and so I pressed harder on the petal but it didn't go any faster.
"I think this is the fastest," I said with confusion on why the car wouldn't speed up.
Silence was in the air, after a few minutes an idea popped into my mind. "Hey, Mani..." I called the girl's attention. "Watch this!" I removed one hand from the steering wheel.
"Jesus mila!" Normani exclaimed and swatted my hand back onto the steering wheel. "You're seriously gonna kill us!" Normani feared.
"You're boring!" I stuck my tongue out at her playfully.
"Boring but safe is fine with me," Normani replied.
"Ugh!" I groaned. "You sound like my mom!" I teased and sat up straight, my eyes not leaving the road.
"You know Mani sometimes you just got to take the risk," I started. "And you got to break the rules to have a little fun."
Normani rolled her eyes playfully, "I can't believe I'm stuck with... this for two days," Normani pointed at me.
I faked a gasp. "Rude!" I exclaimed. "I should be complaining, you're gonna kill me with boredom," I said, and it earned a slap on the arm — the action caused the steering wheel to turn right.
I acted fast and quickly turned the steering wheel back straight. I looked at my friend, "Yeah, and you say I'm the one that's gonna get us killed," I said, and rolled my eyes playfully causing her to chuckle.
......
The moon was already up, and the streets were dark. I tried my best to stay awake. I never knew driving would be this tiring — I thought it would be joyful, but I guess I was wrong because my eyes are failing to stay open.
"Hey, Mani?" I called the girl next to me. I glanced over at her to see she was sleeping. "WHO WANTS HOT CHICKEN WINGS!" I shouted and the girl jumped from her sleep — her eyes popped towards me, "I want them!" She was brought back to reality and sighed, "I forgot we were in the car."
"There isn't any chicken, but if you don't take the wheel, zombies will be eating you like a chicken wing..." I informed her.
She shook her head. "I don't know how to drive, you know that. We're just gonna crash if I drive," She told me and I stopped the car, putting the lever to park.
Normani furrowed her eyebrows, "Why'd you stop?" She asked and quirked an eyebrow at me.
I placed my body into a more comfortable position before answering, "Because you're to chicken to drive and I need sleep. You can be first look out." I closed my eyes and was literally knocked out after doing so.
........
I woke up from the sound of banging. "Could you shut up? I'm fucking sleeping!" I huffed while shifting my body into a better position.
Unfortunately, the banging continued, and it got on my nerves. I fluttered my eyes open and got up. I looked at what was causing the loud banging and flinched upon seeing two zombies hitting the car trying to get to us.
I breathed a relief knowing the window didn't break while I was asleep. I raised my middle finger at them — even though I knew they wouldn't know the meaning. I glanced over at Normani to see she was still asleep. "Gosh! Why do I have to be the one driving...." I muttered and turned the engine on and quickly drove off...
Lauren's POVI Woke up still in the car and I had a headache.
"Rise and shine!" Brad smiled.
I instantly gritted my teeth. "Asshole! You fucking stabbed me with a needle!" I hissed at him and balled my fists.
"I had to... You were out of control," He said.
I looked out the window then back at Brad, "How long was I out?" I asked.
"Half the day."
I nodded.
"Ugh! I'm gonna fucking kill you if something bad happens to my soon to be girlfriend and friend!" I informed Brad.
His hand found my shoulder, "Look... I'm sorry, okay? But if we went back to get them, we wouldn't survive."
"How do you know we won't survive?" I raised my eyebrow.
"Look... Just calm down, okay? Just breathe," Brad told me and began instructing me to inhale and exhale, but I didn't follow. I got even more pissed.
"I'm not sure if my girlfriend or friend is okay and you want me to breathe?!" I snapped.
"Please, just calm down... Getting mad won't help... All we can do is wait for them when we arrive in Heidi," The girl beside me said and patted my back.
"She's right..." Brad started. "Your anger wont get you anywhere. It'll only give you a headache."
Suddenly, zombies were on the road; Brad made a move to just run then over. The zombies hit the grill and bounced up and made a tiny crack on the windshield on the passenger's side — With that Brad avoided the other Zombies on the road.
I had to hold on to the sides because the road was bumpy since we were on rough road.
