Chapter 12

Damien's POV

I flopped back against the pillows when Clari disappeared back into the closet. What was so special about Fangs that she had to change her clothes? I'm sure no one downstairs would care if she wore what she already had on.

Although, now that I think about it, she did have blood and dirt all over those clothes. Maybe she was just changing into clean clothes before she went downstairs. And what is up with the vampires throwing a party? Don't they realize that she's probably not up for a party yet? She was just seriously injured this morning and now they're throwing her a party?

What kind of world did they live in? The sick and injured were supposed to rest and relax until they were fully healed, not sleep for six hours and then run out to the club and party!

My jaw dropped when she stepped back out of the closet five minutes later. She was wearing a sexy green cocktail dress that pulled Jake to the forefront and had him begging me to jump her. I had to grab hold of the blankets tightly to keep myself from doing exactly that.

"What is that?" I managed to grind out.

She looked down at the dress she was wearing and then looked back up at me in confusion. "It's a dress," she replied, slowly, as if she thought something was wrong with me.

I took a deep breath. She looked way too sexy to leave this room. "You cannot go downstairs in that!" I growled, eyeing her up and down.

She glared at me, before catching on to my reasoning and laughing. She was laughing about this? I stood with a growl, pulling her into my arms as she continued to laugh.

"This is not funny, Claribelle," I growled in her ear. "You look way to sexy to go downstairs!"

She pulled away from me, patting my cheek and smiling at me. "I look fine," she told me. "And I doubt you have anything to worry about. If you don't scare away the other guys, the coven will do it for you. They have been since I was ten."

I smiled in contentment. I wouldn't need the coven to scare away any who thought they could touch her, but it sure made Jake and I happy to know that no one had ever been that close to her before.

It was scary how attached to her I was getting. I watched her closely as she went into the bathroom to fix her hair and I went back to the bed. Just a couple days ago, I was adamant that we couldn't make this work and that I could stay away from her. Now, I wanted nothing more than to keep her by my side forever and never let her leave.

She'd given me hope earlier that we could make this work somehow. That maybe we could convince my pack to accept her like her pack had accepted her mother and their coven. I sighed just thinking about it. We were going to need a lot of help, especially after those three vampires attacked the young boy in my pack.

Thinking about those vampires... "Clari, what were you all talking about earlier? With the three vampires?" I asked.

She didn't come out of the bathroom, but she did answer my question through the open door. "We heard about a few vampires loitering around outside your territory and heard that they might be a threat to you. I volunteered to find them and talk to them before any harm could come to your pack, or them."

I wanted to growl at her concern for the vampires that had so callously attacked one of my pack members. "Why are you so worried about them?" I spat angrily.

I heard her sigh in the bathroom. "Because there's a chance that they don't want to hurt your pack."

I snorted. "Too late for that!" I remarked. "They already attacked a wolf we had on patrol and nearly killed him."
