Dean stared at himself in the mirror and dabbed on some cologne. He fixed his crooked tie and combed through his hair. This was the only time he has ever been nervous for a date, but then again it is the only time he's not killing his date afterwards. He took a deep breath and smiled at himself.
A genuine and not devious smile.
He wanted this date to go well. He depended on it. For once in his life things were actually going well for him. Besides in his killing profession of course because business has never been better.
He whistled As Time Goes By as he walked out of his bedroom and downstairs. He slipped his coat on and laid his hat atop his head. He left his home and got into his FIAT to drive to Castiel's house.
He checked the time on his watch. He smiled because he was always on time.
Castiel was giving Charlie instructions to care for Alfie. She commented, "I knew you and Dean would hit it off. It was so very obvious. You guys are so sappy together."
Castiel kissed her cheek, "Thanks for watching over Alfie for me again."
She nodded, "Not a problem. Have you told him yet?"
Castiel questioned, "Told him what?"
"That I'm your step sister," she stated.
He shook his head, "I will tonight. Haven't yet. Seems somewhat irrelevant."
There was a knock at the door. Charlie ran down the stairs with her heels clicking against the wooden floor and her dress flowing behind her. Castiel gave Alfie a kiss goodbye as the infant laid in his crib.
Charlie opened the door to reveal Dean. She smiled brightly and held the door frame as she leaned against it. She greeted, "Well, isn't it Dean Winchester? In the flesh? What can I do for you?"
He sighed, "I'm sure you know why I am here."
She grinned, "Castiel will be down in a minute. He's just saying goodbye to Alfie. Don't you look spiffy! Is that a new tie? Are you wearing cologne?"
Castiel came from behind her, "Stop bantering him, Charlie."
He walked past her and outside beside Dean. Dean complimented, "You look lovely on this fine evening."
Castiel smiled, "As do you."
Dean held out his arm to escort Castiel to the car. Charlie called to them, "Have a whoopee! Don't get too sauced!"
Castiel waved goodbye to her as they walked to the car. Dean opened the door for him and then, walked over to the driver's side. They pulled out of the driveway and down the road. Castiel asked, "Uh-did you know Charlie is my step sister?"
Dean turned to look at him when they approached a stop sign. His eyes widened, "She is?"
Castiel nodded, "Yes, we try to keep quiet about it."
"But why," Dean questioned as he continued down the street.
"Mostly because when we were younger we dated. Now, it is just strange," Castiel said.
"You two dated? Should I be worried or-"
Castiel cut him off, "Nothing to worry about. She likes women and frankly, I like men now."
Castiel put his hand on Dean's. Dean smiled slightly and relaxed. Castiel asked, "Where are we going for our date?"
"I told you I would take you dancing," Dean reminded.
"We're going bopping?"
Dean nodded and Castiel bit his lip nervously. He said, "Dean, I can't dance."
Dean squeezed his hand slightly, "I'll teach you, darling."
They pulled into the parking lot of Dorothy's. The two walked in hand and hand. Castiel took slow deep breaths to calm his nerves. People finished swing-dancing to the end of a song when they walked through the doors.
Dean pulled Castiel along to a table. They took off their coats and hats. Dean walked up to the bar and asked for two scotches, neat. He watched Castiel sitting at the table and staring at the other dancers, admiring them. He smiled lovingly at him. The bartender said, "Here's your drinks, sir."
Dean handed him some money and took the drinks back to the table. Dean sat beside Castiel and took his hand in his to get Castiel's attention. Castiel looked at him and smiled, "Hello, Dean."
"Hey there, darling," Dean said.
Dean kissed the top of Castiel's hand. Castiel sighed slightly. Dean asked, "What's wrong?"
Castiel looked down, "I just don't understand why you are with me, of all people. You're such a dreamboat and me? I'm no one special. You're just whistl'n dixie with me."
Dean shook his head, "You're a dreamboat to me, baby. I happen to be carrying a torch for ya, okay? There's nothing to not understand. I think you're more handsome than me by a long shot."
Castiel blushed with tears slowly welling in his eyes. No one has ever quite treated him the way Dean is. So caring and loving.
Dean said, "No crying, darling. Why don't we get on the dance floor for the next song?"
Castiel nodded and they both chugged the half-full glass of scotch.
Then, Dean tugged Castiel onto his feet and to the middle of the ballroom floor. He yanked Castiel into his arms in one swift motion. Dean guided Castiel's hands to where they belonged. Castiel's left hand rested on Dean's shoulder and his other hand held Dean's hand. Dean held onto Castiel's lower back with his free hand and pulled him close against him.
The song began to play. Dean and Cas said in unison, "I love this song."
They exchanged a look and smiled at each other. The song was All This And Heaven Too by Frank Sinatra. Dean swayed and hummed along to the song. Castiel laid his head against Dean's chest.
Dean sang quietly in his ear, "You give me your lips and your lips are so heavenly. Stars in the sky are all free and they shine for me. So does the moon in the blue, all this is mine and heaven too. You give me your arms and your arms are like angel wings. Sweet to my ear is the song every bluebird sings. Each rosebud kissed by the dew, all this is mine and heaven too. I own each summer day, each mountain capped with snow. The sentimental tree, the dreamy streams that flow. Every country lane and every street of stone. Are highways of adventure made for me, alone. You give me your love and your love is a melody. Deep in my heart, I will carry this song with me. You bring a love so divine, all this is mine and heaven too."
Castiel lifted his head off of Dean, so they were facing each other. They both tilted their heads with eyes closed and leaned in for their lips to meet. Dean held his left hand against Castiel's cheek and still held his waist with his other hand. Castiel's arms wrapped around Dean's neck. The kiss deepened and their torsos pressed against each other. Dean pulled away, "You're my dreamboat now, darling."
Castiel whispered, "And you are mine, love."
