I've never been to a ball and I was completely unprepared for what met me that morning. Packing my room took all of forty-five minutes. So I got dressed and went down for breakfast to find the main hall turned into a dream world.
I'd seen people decorating all week, but I never thought it would turn out like this. The ball was being held in the actual ballroom in the theater, why did they decorate the main hall so extravagantly?
Entire walls were covered in flowers, famous paintings were recreated with flowers, jewels hung from chandeliers, the cafe was covered in beautiful linens and centerpieces. It was mesmerizing.
I could only imagine how the actual ballroom was decorated. I asked for my breakfast to go; I had no desire to spill anything in this room, and went back to my room. Upstairs I found the entire floor abuzz.
Girls were confirming hair and makeup appointments, parents had questions about arrival times and outfits were changing at the last minute.
After breakfast, I spent most of the morning with Cassie in her room. She told me about a boy from Bloomington named Harrison she'd met a few times and was texting. She showed me his picture. He was a good looking guy, dark-skinned, broad shoulders and captain of the rowing team.
Grace and Isla joined us and showed me photos of their boyfriends who were coming from Texas for the ball.
"Lincoln and Darcy Twillthorpe," Grace said showing me a photo of two blonde brothers, who could've passed for twins themselves. Their dad works with our dad. They attend school in Texas. Lincoln interns with his dad in the summer and Darcy has done some modeling."
I told them all of their guys were handsome and lucky to have them.
"Now all we have to do is find a beau for you," Isla announced.
"Guys are the last thing on my mind at the moment," I replied, "hello big time singing revue tonight."
They laughed and rolled their eyes; each guaranteeing to choose just the right Bloomington man for me.
