Everything and everybody was on high alert, level ten. The dean sent over the order of the revue and I was the opening act, no pressure right. He never came to any of the dress rehearsals; he trusted Ms. Czerwonsky's judgement and wanted to be surprised with the audience.
I thought he was insane. What if there was something he didn't like or wanted to change? He wouldn't be able to stop the show with everyone there. And why make me the opener? I supposed it was better than being the finale.
As time started winding down, rehearsals gave way to final exams. We weren't sure how we'd gotten to the end of the semester so quickly but looking back we accomplished a lot. I flipped through my planner one night noting all of the class projects, civic projects and extracurricular activities I participated in and my mind was blown.
I glanced over at my wall and saw all of the photos of me and the girls from this year and just smiled. Lying in the bed that night I thought about my final exams and figured I did pretty well on them. I studied much harder than I did last semester.
I couldn't believe the revue and ball were tomorrow night. Mom brought my dress and accessories up the day before and I couldn't wait to wear it. The girls came to my room when she brought it to see it and for me to see the dresses they'd chosen.
Cassie's dress was a cream tulle Marchesa gown with flowers all over that made her look like a Princess. Grace and Isla had chosen pale green and pale blue sleeveless trumpet gowns which were much more streamlined and neutral than I expected from them. And Jalissa's dress was a sequin rainbow number that looked perfect on her. We all had a fun time modeling for mom before she headed home.
I was sure I was ready for the revue; I only wondered if I was ready for dean Simulson. I was compelled to practice until I was afraid I might practice too much and lose my voice. So tonight after Florence's encouragement, I rested my voice, mind and body.
This day was the official last day of classes and after the ball tomorrow everyone would go home for Summer break. My room really didn't require much packing so I'd put it off until the last minute. I'd throw all of my stuff into my suitcases and a few boxes I'd kept in the morning.
For now I think a long bath, some YouTube and eventually sleep sounded lovely.
Nearing the end! Thanks for reading!
