Finely Stone;
I blinked my eyes open, my whole body feeling like it was in agonising pain. My back hurt like hell, my head still felt like it was spinning and my limbs were too sore to move. How long have I been like this?
I wasn't in my usual prison cell. I was laying down on a bed...in some sort of room. I couldn't smell the usual smell of death and blood, it actually smelled nice and fresh. There was a hint of vanilla in the air, it made me so
comfortable.I felt peaceful, until I heard him.
I could hear him yelling outside the room I was in. "Why do you mean she's not here?!" His tone was firm and loud. "I told you to bring here to me instantly, didn't I?!"
This man practically radiated power and authority, he made people fall to their knees at the click of his fingers. I could tell things always went his way— he was Royalty after all, and when they didn't...God help us all.
I couldn't help but wonder who he was talking about.
"Y-Your Highness, I'm afraid she is unavailable. She's out of the country, sir." I voice I didn't recognise answered and I heard the door open.
Footsteps paced around the room for a couple of seconds before I heard the sound of glass smashing into pieces. The King let out an angry growl. Why does he have such a short temper?
Who was this person he need to meet with? I was eager to know, but too afraid to ask. Hell, I was afraid to move a muscle because I didn't want him to realise I was awake and receive another round of what happened prior.
"Send one of the messengers to inform her to be back soon. Until she returns, she will be staying with me. Have her belongings moved to my room and put it in a corner away from my sight. You're dismissed." He ordered the guard. I heard the door close and then I realised I was left alone with the devil himself. "I know you're awake. I can hear your heart beating from here." The King announced loudly.
My breath hitched, I shut my eyes tightly. I prayed that the ground would just swallow me up. When will the torture end? I'm tired of living this meaningless life.
"I have much better things to do than be in the same room as you. So if you could cooperate with me, that would be delightful." He said. "Now sit up." I could sense his irritation and anger.
Like the coward I am, I tried to sit up. Key word; tried. I let out a quiet wince because of the immense amount of pain I was experiencing, all while trying to sit up straight. I couldn't help the painful cry that escaped my lips. Suddenly, I felt a pair of rough hands grab onto my arm and yank me up in one swift motion, making my body hurt one hundred times more than it did before. Painful tears filled my eyes but he didn't seem to care, he only let out a sigh and shoved into the pockets of his dress pants.
"I don't know if you're just putting up an act or telling the truth, there's no way of me finding out without the help of someone who isn't here at the moment. So, your death is to be postponed until I get hold of her." The King said without one glance at me as he walked towards the balcony doors.
No way of finding out if I was telling the truth? Beatrice told me Royal Vampires were able to read people's minds and control them by compelling them to do whatever they wanted. Why didn't the King read my mind, find out that I have no idea what he was talking about and that I am, in fact telling the truth? I didn't ask him, because I knew if I did he would become angry.
So, instead I asked the question I had been dying to know the answer to all my life. "Why did you lock me up for years? Why do you want to kill me?" I asked quietly.
"You know, I don't have to answer any of your questions." He said with an eye roll. "But I guess I'll tell you, since I'm feeling kind today."
Kind? Is this what his definition of generous was? Inflicting pain on innocent people? If so, I never want to witness what him feeling heartless was like. Though, I think I've witnessed that side of him slightly.
"There's a prophecy, it states that you are supposed to be the cause of my destruction and my kingdom. That's why I brought you here, that's why you've been locked up for several years." The King spoke.
I waited, expecting him to elaborate or continue with his story, but all he did was look at me with a 'what?' expression.
I tucked a strand of hair behind my ear and nervously gulped as he watched the motion carefully. I felt undeniably nervous around him, I chose my words carefully. "I really don't plan on destroying you or your kingdom or anything. I am just a normal girl who had human parents. They never told me about the vampire world or anything like that. They showed me how to tie my shoes and how to spell my name-"
"Do you always talk this much? Or do I bring out this side of you?" The King rudely interrupted me, eyes narrowed, as if I were his prey.
"Sorry." I muttered, tearing my gaze away from him.
"Whatever. Since you're not telling me anything about your dirty little secrets, I shall have a witch to look at this situation and advise me on watch I should do. Not that I take orders from anyone, I do whatever the fuck I want but I will need her opinion. She is older, after all." He continued.
"How old are you anyway?" I blurted.
"That's none of your fucking business! As I was saying," He shot a glare at me. "You will be living in my bedroom, since I want to keep an eye on you at all times. If I even get a little bit suspicious, I'll rip that disgusting heart of yours right from your chest, and believe me I won't think twice about it. It won't even take a second of my time. So watch your back, and try to make your presence non-existence around me. I might just get angry at the sound of your breathing under my roof. Understood?" He asked in a dangerously calm tone.
"Y-Yes, sir."
