I put on a red vans t-shirt, tan skinny jeans, red converse, and threw on a dark gray Aeropostale sweatshirt over the top. I was running a comb through my hair when my phone rang.
I picked it up.
"Hello?" I spoke into the phone.
"Hi, this is Jason. I'm the building manager at the Versace apartment building. I'm calling to let you know that the owner has informed me that you have been accepted to live in 137B."
A grin broke across my face.
"Thank you so much for letting me know!"
"No problem. You can start moving your stuff in whenever you like. Have a good day, sir." He replied, then hung up the phone.
I finished getting ready and ran out into the living room to share the good news.
LATER THAT NIGHT:
By the time it got dark I was ready to take me first few boxes of stuff over to the apartment.
When I arrived in my car, I opened the trunk and stacked three boxes in my arms to take up to my apartment. The lobby attendant opened the door for me.
I carried my stuff over to the elevator and got in. It seemed like forever until I finally reached the top floor.
Stepping out with my boxes, I stumbled a little, slightly dizzy from the ride up here.
I walked all the way to my apartment which was at the very end of the hallway to the right of the elevator. I took the key out of my back pocket and inserted it into the door.
Kicking the door open with one foot, I stepped inside and shut the door behind me.
I sniffed. Something smelled weird in here. Almost metallic. Like blood.
My eyes widened and I turned around to face the wall that the door was on. I dropped the boxes, my stuff spilling all over the floor, and covered my mouth with my hand.
What I saw before me was horrific.
Written across the pure white wall was "Welcome to hell, Hayes." But what scared me the most was that the blood it had been written with was fresh. And dripping.
