HAYES' POV:

Jason and I stood there for a while longer, still shocked by what we saw. I felt a pain in my arm but didn't look at it.

I snapped back to reality and ran out into the lobby and screamed, "Someone call the police NOW!"

WHEN THE POLICE ARRIVE
Everyone stood off to the side while the police examined the body. They gently lowered Nick into a body bag and wheeled him out of the room, then one of them came over to me.

"If you don't mind my asking, why are you here?" I raised an eyebrow. "You're Hayes Grier, correct?" I nodded. "Then what led you to come here?"

I was reluctant to answer. "I just got an apartment in Nick's building earlier today and I went to move in some of my stuff this evening but when I got there..." The words were uncomfortable in my mouth.

"There was writing on the wall." The policeman gave me a confused look. "It was blood. I called Nick to tell him but he didn't answer, so I came here."

He wrote something down on his notepad, then looked up. "Have you noticed anything else suspicious recently?"

"Not that I can think of." I lied.

"Alright. Call me if you remember anything else." He pulled a card with his phone number on it out of his pocket and handed it to me.

"Yes, sir." He walked away. I quickly ran back over to him.

"Wait!" I called. "I want to know who's blood is on my wall." The man nodded.

"Why don't we go have a look at it right now then?"

LATER THAT NIGHT
We had gotten a sample of the blood that was on my wall to be analyzed at the forensics lab. I was sitting in my apartment waiting for the results.

My phone started to vibrate. It was the lab.

"What did you find out?" I asked nervously. There was a moment of silence before they answered.

"You're not going to like what I'm about to tell you..." they breathed.

"What is it?!?!" I yelled impatiently.

"The blood we found on your wall...is a match for yours." I dropped my phone onto the marble floor. Then I remembered the throbbing pain I had felt earlier. I looked down at my arm and realized it was bruised.

Like someone had injected me with a needle.
