"Hey... Hey, wake up! Wake up!" I heard a voice say before someone started shaking me. I opened my eyes quickly, I was out of the library.
"Oh thank the Heavens! You're okay!" I felt Hailey hugging me. "I was so worried, but thanks to you, almost everyone was able to get out of the gas!" I smiled and hugged back.
"Are Connie, Charlotte, and everyone else okay?" I asked.
"They're just... fine..." Hailey smiled again, a little bit wider. I jumped back when Hailey disappeared into black smoke. Then my surroundings are to flake off like old paint would. I spun around at darkness was let in. I was back in the darkness. I fell to my knees. Why me? Why did we have to move to this terrible place?! I could feel the tears run down my cheeks. I hated this weird dream. No, this nightmare! Someone, please! Wake me up!!!
I blinked. I was in my room. Wait, what am I doing here? Shouldn't I be at school with Hailey, Connie, Charlotte, and everyone else? I held my head. Why am I here? What am I doing here?! My painted pink walls seemed like a substitute for chains.
"Don't be scared, Emily. I have saved you from that nightmarish town! So you can be free back home..." A female voice said. She didn't sound at all familiar.
"Who are you? Where are my friends?!" I shouted, hoping the voice would respond.
"Questions you ask don't need answers since you can put the puzzle together by yourself!" She giggled. I slammed my fists down on my bed. I tried yelling something back, but I didn't hear her voice again...
A dream... That's all this is! Just a stupid dream! Any moment, I'll wake up and I'll be back home-
"But you are home. Aren't I right? Isn't this the place you lived before that tainted town?" The voice said.
"Get out of my head!" I shouted.
"Em? Are you okay in there? I could've sworn I heard screaming and shouting." My ma's muffled voice said through the door.
"Y-Yeah! Totally fine!" I shouted back. I heard her mumble something but I didn't hear what she said. It's okay, it's okay. Just breathe, Emily. Breathe... In and out. I took in a deep breath and then released it. I tried to calm down but I couldn't stop thinking about Goran Trails. About Hailey and everyone else. I looked around for my phone until I found it in my back pocket. Then, I went on google maps and typed in "Goran Trails." Nothing. Nothing at all came up. I searched on google "Goran Trails" and a few sites popped up. I knew it was real... I stopped, dropped my phone on the floor and began to cry.
Goran Trails was a made up story about a town with abusive schools and slave-like jobs. That can't be true. I picked my phone back up and took a second look. I continued reading what this "article" about Goran Trails had to say about this "made up" place. The article described Goran Trails quite realistic. They were right about how all the schools were abusive to the kids who went there and that all the kids were missing an eye, but one thing the article said really freaked me out.
"Goran Trails is quite common in a lot of reports from psychiatrists and their patients. They seemed to think they are in this fantasy world and are there to be the hero of a made up place."
I dropped my phone again. I'm not a crazy person... "Aren't you? After all, you can hear me." The voice was back. "Shut up!" I snapped at the voice. I heard her laughter taunt me. I covered my ears and shut my eyes. Leave me alone, leave me alone, leave me alone, leave me alone!... I opened my eyes and uncovered my ears. The voice's laughter had stopped. I took a deep breath, picked up my phone, and fell on my bed...
Goran Trails... It's real! I know it is... It has to be...
