Chapter Two

Aurora P.O.V

Staring up at the midnight sky, that is lit up by the sparkling stars, I try to find some peace from having another sleepless night. As a child I would always go stargazing at night time with my mum and dad; my mum new every star and would tell me all about whereas my dad would make up wild stories of what they looked like. Smiling softly to myself I remember the good days. The good days when my parents were still alive, when I still had a pack which was a home and when I had someone to lean on.

Now I'm scared to close my eyes, even for a minute. Constantly looking over my shoulder and being alerted from the tiniest noise. I'm not just protecting myself but my son, Daniel. My savior. I was ready to give up before I found myself pregnant, even when I was pregnant, I didn't think I could do it but as soon as I heard his heartbeat, I knew I'd protect him no matter what. It was like a sign telling me things were going to change and I'd finally be rescued. Saved from that vile creature. Shaking my head stopping any thoughts of him coming into my head I make my way back inside the house from the small balcony.

Looking at the clock the red blearing lines read 06:05 AM, I'd been outside for four hours. Quietly, I creep into the bedroom to check up on Daniel only to find him sleeping peacefully taking up the whole bed in his starfish position causing me to chuckle. Closing the door slightly I turn back this time heading towards the bathroom, a shower should kill some time.

By the time I finish the relaxing shower and manage to wrap a towel around my body a whimper startles me.

"MOMMA" shouts Daniel.

Darting towards the bedroom my heart is in my throat expecting the worse, I should have known better. Slamming the bedroom door fully open I see Daniel sat up tears streaming down his face. Rushing towards him I gather his little body in my arms whilst my wolf protectively scans the area for threats.

"Its okay baby mummy has got you; I promise." I whisper into his ear soothing him will his little cries slowly change into small whimpers and hiccups.

"I thought he was here and was going to hurt us momma for running. I don't want him to hurt you again, I was so scared and when I woke up you weren't next to me." he stammers out making my heart clench. Wiping his face to remove any tear I look into his eyes and the fear in them almost causes me to cry. I'm failing him, I should be protecting him and here he is terrified. How can I even call myself a mother?

My mum was such a strong woman, sure she had dad by her side who would never let any harm come to her but she could hold her own. As a child, I thought I was strong as I was undergoing hard training so I could take over my dad's rank one day, but I was just naive. A naive child who had no idea what the world would take from her. Mum was perfect but I don't think I could ever measure up to that. I wish they were here telling me what I'm doing wrong for Daniel and how to be better for him. Closing my eyes, I cage my thoughts away again, I cannot wallow in self-pity over something that can never be changed.

"You are safe Danny and I won't ever let him get anywhere near us. As soon as I think he's near we will just move again, okay? He will not find us." I strongly state reassuringly to my little boy and he relaxes slightly in my arms believing my words more by each second of me holding him. It's going to know someone believes the words because I don't.

Daniel and I lay in bed for the next hour with me holding him and telling him small stories, filling his mind up with wild adventures from my childhood. He always likes hearing stories from my childhood just as I enjoy telling them, even though the past is far behind me I love reliving it as I tell Danny.

Walking towards the wardrobe I pick out Mine and Danny's clothes for the day before helping him get ready and wash up for the day ahead. Once we're both changed, we head to the kitchen so I can make him some quick toast for breakfast. Before we ran, I stole some money so we could find somewhere however today's mission for us is to find a job as that money will soon be no more. Hopefully, it will not be too busy whilst it's only a Wednesday as I'm not the best with crowds especially when I know no one. 

I pass on breakfast like I do every day needing the food we do have in to last for Daniel. Gathering Daniel's backpack and my bag we head out and I can only hope this day works out well.

Twenty shops we've been in and twenty shops have rejected me. Saying we don't need any more workers yet they have the sign in the window asking for more. I mean I understand why they did, I never got to finish school so I have nothing to my name. They probably think why should they take the risk of hiring me and I get it but it still hurts. I always wanted to finish and graduate with all the grades I wanted but I was forced out and was not allowed to go back. One of his ways of controlling me. He knew I wouldn't make it far if I did leave ad looks like he was right.

One café catches my eye in the shopping mall, it was extremely busy so they might be interested in extra workers. Leading Danny in the direction my eyes lit up as we enter due to homely vibe the café gives, it sounds strange but the atmosphere feels welcoming and the employees all have friendly smiles. Shyly, I walk towards the counter to see a young woman who looks no older than 16 turns towards me.

"Hello, what would you like today? I take it is to go?" she cheerily says to me. Right, just ask for her manager and hope for the best. I mean that's all can do, hope.

"Hi, I was wondering if I could speak to the manager? If they are not too busy." I reply in a confident tone even though on the inside my anxiety is swallowing me up.

"I'll just go get her for you just wait here please."

While she goes to find the manager, I try to calm my nerves, I'm so worried to be rejected from yet another store. I have someone depending on me, I need a job for him. Looking down at Danny to find him already looking up at me with a grin, it's the push I need to keep calm. I need to be strong for him. Smiling at him, I look back up to see the worker coming back with an old lady who must be the manager but something about this seemed to worry my wolf. As the old lady stood in front of me, I realized why my wolf was becoming on edge, a werewolf.
