I was exhausted from running around for my dad last night, and I barely got any sleep. And now I was sitting my desk in City Hall, cheek bruise and all, staring at the cover story of the newspaper.

ESCAPED CRIMINAL HAS SAME LAST NAME AS MAYOR

I wasn't surprised when Mason and Sunshine walked in. It was Saturday, so they didn't have school.

"Have you seen this newspaper?" Mason screeched. "It's insane!" Then he gasped when he looked at me.

Sunshine whispered into Mason's ear. Then something weird happened. I could hear what Sunny was saying. It was like she was whispering right to me.

"That bruise is just like the one the person had yesterday," she said to Mason.

Oh no. They knew it was me.

And now I knew it was them.

It was pretty obvious that Sunshine was the super with the pink hair, but I never would've guessed Mason was Dash Boy.

Not like I'd tell them that I knew.

I snapped back when Mason said, "You look really tired, Leila. Everything alright?"

I yawned. "My dad came to my apartment really late last night. He's visiting."

Mason nodded and whispered to Sunshine. "It could've been anyone," I could hear his whispers, too. What was happening? He turned back to me. "The assumption this news report's making is ridiculous," Mason continued. "Don't you think?"

I nodded, playing along. "We live in the biggest city in the state. Jackson isn't an uncommon name or anything. Anyone could have same last name as me." Mason smirked at Sunshine and she rolled her eyes. Even though I knew why, I had to pretend I didn't. "What?"

Mason turned to me, hesitating. "Uh..." he turned to Sunshine and she shrugged. It was getting old. I sighed. Finally, Mason said, "Sunshine didn't think it was a coincidence."

Laughing, I replied, "That's ridiculous. Sure, maybe he's old enough to be my dad, but I don't look anything like him." That part was true. People always told me I looked my my mom. My dad, being who he was, didn't look anything like me. I would doubt he was even my dad, if it wasn't for the powers.

But they didn't know that.

Oh, wait.

Maybe they did.

I sure hoped they didn't.

"See, I told you so, Sunshine!"

I was so worried Mason and Sunshine knew I helped a criminal escape, that's all I could think about the next day.

It could be worse, I heard something inside me say. They could know your real secret.

"Yeah," I told it aloud, since I was the only one at City Hall. Mr Madison had gone on lunch break. "But they might realize it's familiar if -when- they see me. Dad's almost got his plan worked out, remember?"

Nah, it said. They won't. Your super outfit has lot of coverage. Practically the only things showing are your cheeks and chin.

"And my bangs! They kinda give it away!"

"What about your bangs?" I jumped when I realized Mr. Madison has just walked through the door. He laughed when I jumped, something I rarely saw him do.

"Just... planning my next trip to the hairdresser, that's all."

Mr. Madison nodded and walked away. I slumped back in my chair and sighed. "That was too close."
