Marinette's POV

Starting the day with math after a weekend wasn't my ideal morning. Everyone in the class seemed way too sleepy to pay attention.

Even Nathaniel wasn't drawing, as usual, he was sleeping with his hand supporting his head.

Even Adrien seemed a bit sleepy.

When Ms. Mendeleiev looked around the class, I immediately woke Nathaniel up.

"W-wa-? Oh, thanks, Marinette." he rubbed his eye as he smiled at me.

"Didn't get much sleep last night, did you?" I whispered. He flushed, "No, not really, you?" he looked at me with his elbow on the desk and his hand on the side of his head so it was slightly tilted.

"No, I didn't get to sleep much either." I chuckled.

Luka's voice ruined it, "Ugh, can you guys keep the flirting down? I'm trying to pay attention!" he growled.

"Luka." Ms. Mendeleiev called out his name. The volume of her voice seemed to wake up all the sleeping students.

"Sorry, Ms. Mendeleiev." Luka apologized.

"Clearly, if you have the free time to talk in this class, you already know the material? How about you come up and solve this problem?" she gestured to the complicated math problem on the board.

Students were awake enough to whisper among themselves as Luka reluctantly stood up from his seat and made his way down to the board.

I heard Adrien quickly whisper, "Good luck, Luka." which was followed by the bluehead's hissy retort, "I don't need luck."

I braced myself for second-hand embarrassment.

But to my surprise, and everyone else's, Luka had no hesitation.

He started to swiftly write down numbers and letters that I couldn't keep up with.

Gasps echoed off the walls. He was solving it.

"And the answer is... y = 14x + 9," he said, earning a defeated frown from Ms. Mendeleiev, "Correct."

But the students weren't so happy about it.

"Show-off." Kim hissed, several students murmured in agreement while multiple others made more remarks.

Luka looked unaffected by their comments, he simply took his seat and stayed silent as Ms. Mendeleiev continued the lesson.

His lack of emotion makes me wonder... is this common for him?

Finally, lunchtime rolled around. I sat with Nathaniel on a bench, he offered me a delicious sandwhich, said he made it himself.

I was about to take a bite of the sandwhich when I saw a student push Luka down the stairs.

I recognized him, he's a student I saw last week. Victor, I think his name was.

Nathaniel and I exchanged a worried look.

I stuffed the sandwhich into my mouth as we ran to the scene. Students were crowding around them.

"Dumb guttersnipe, you think you can come in here and pretend like you're one of us?" he rolled up his sleeves, preparing to knock Luka back to the ground.

Guttersnipe?

How did he find out?

[A/N: in case you didn't know, a guttersnipe is like a bad kid on the streets]

Luka struggled to stand up, his limbs shook violently.

Victor swung a blow again, but his fist didn't make it to his target, Luka dodged at the last second.
