Nancy woke up in the same room as the last morning. But the only thing that she could think about was that she wanted to walk away and never come back ever again. Because knowing when to walk away is wisdom and being able to be courageous. She just wanted to leave and somehow escape reality but instead, she escaped into complete darkness also known as the blackouts. All she knew was, she had no desire to argue with him and she chose to leave because she just wanted or better, needed peace and space.
She sat upright and took her cigarettes from the wooden night table next to her on the left. On the balcony, she lit it up and slid the wall back down. She inhaled deeply and shut her eyes. She just wanted to enjoy the beautiful autumn breeze and the sunlight for her lack of Vitamin D in her pale body. She was shaking because of the cold wind and she wore only a t-shirt.
All of the sudden, she saw a flashing light in her mind with her closed eyes and a few pictures from her dream came across her crowded mind. It was quite painful. It showed her a balded man, who looked like he was high as fuck, on TV and somehow she knew this man. She didn't know where or even why he looked familiar to her. She saw a small kid running away crying from her. She saw a fair where people ran away screaming in fear, panic washed all over their faces. She saw a lot of blood that made her sick. Bloodstained on people's clothes or blood puddles on the floor. She saw innocent people injured and yell for help. She saw The Feral Soldier standing in front of her, also injured and this time he wanted to fight her.
She groaned as those pictures faded away and the pain floated through her brain. Danny slung the balcony door open as soon as he heard her. He was surprised to see her back here too. He wouldn't have even thought that she would come back to him. But he was thankful. He just stood there holding the door open for a while and was kind of speechless.
"You're back!", he said relieved. "I thought you'd never come back and we had to search you.", he explained and leaned with his right side at the doorframe with crossed arms over his chest.
He had dark circles underneath his eyes. Probably he was worried that he would lose the one and only eyewitness who saw the crime live. She was surprised too since neither she knew why she was back. At some point deep in her soul, she wanted to come back because she didn't want to feel alone or forgotten. To be more specific lonely, because that feeling is worse than alone and that means no one cares.
"Don't worry, I can't remember how I got back here. Somewhere deep inside me is always wanting to come back.", she told him with a pissed voice and a goofy fake smile. Danny noticed that something was wrong but it didn't bother him too much.
She got up and the first thing she grabbed was her cigarette and lit another one up. It was cold and she started to shiver as she smoked. Shortly after, Danny came along with a red blanket and laid it over her shoulders. He stood next to her on the left side as she leaned her arms over the railing. He too enjoyed the moment but he didn't want to show it, he rather tried to swallow the feeling down.
She ignored him and enjoyed her sight. It was the beginning of beautiful autumn. The trees started to change their color. Their green leaves turned an orange, red, or brownish color, some did already fall onto the ground. She could smell someone roasting chestnuts, probably down the street they were selling it. It was getting warmer when the sunshine hit her face but still fresh when the wind blew. Matching with the howling wind the leaves started to dance.
"Can you tell me what month we have?", she asked him, her eyes still focused on the fluttering leaves. At the angle of her eyes, she noticed Danny watching her. He was amused about her moment. He felt so calm, he didn't feel that a lot in the last few months.
"September.", he answered oddly. He looked like he was so mesmerized like she was with the breeze of autumn.
"Well, then it is a September to remember.", she whispered and sighed.
