I wake up in the middle of the night as my door creaks open. My heart stops, and I push myself up, squinting to see a human figure coming inside.
"What?" I tiredly croak, confused as to what's happening and who's in my room.
"Shh," they whisper. "It's just me, go back to sleep." I recognize the low voice immediately and relax. I smile, but then I get confused. Why is Jake in my room?
"Did you have a nightmare?" I wonder, laying back down as he pulls his shirt off.
"No, just missed you," he replies, leaning over to kiss me before laying in bed. I feel how tense his body is though, and instantly know he's lying. I roll over, deciding that if he didn't tell me it means he doesn't want to talk about it, so I instead bring up the other thing plaguing my mind.
"How'd you get in?" I chuckle, cuddling closer to him.
"Back door was unlocked," he says. "I didn't want to wake you."
"So you broke into my house?" I question, laughing again.
"Sorry...too invasive?" he asks, and I'm too tired to tell if he's being sarcastic or not.
I don't even have the energy to laugh, so I shrug. "I don't mind."
He chuckles, holding me tighter. "Good to know," he whispers, somehow knowing I'm about to fall back asleep. He runs his fingers through my hair and down my back, kissing my forehead. My body is coated in goosebumps and I smile, kissing whatever body part is under me (I think his shoulder?), as I slip back into unconsciousness.
I wake up early the next morning, rolling over and running into a body. I chuckle, forgetting Jake was here and smile as I open my eyes to his peaceful face. I drape my arm over him, pulling myself into his chest as I get comfortable again.
My mind replays yesterday, feeling so overwhelmed by emotions. Jake and I are better now than ever and it warms my insides. When I look at his face though, all I can think about is the baby that's coming. I'm scared for him. Hell, I'm scared for Lucas and I don't even like the guy.
I shuffle back just enough that I can see Jake's face, and breathe deeply to try and calm down. I lift my arm from around him, running it through his hair as I sigh in relaxation. Something about his sleeping form, deep breathing and general aura helps me regain my composure.
Weirdly, only a few seconds later Jake's breathing quiets and he wakes up, squinting in the morning light.
I smile, greeting him, "Morning," and not even waiting for a response before I kiss him. he laughs, making me laugh before kissing me properly.
"Morning, Princess," he replies, giving me butterflies as he smiles. We stare at each other for a while before Jake breaks the silence, "Okay, what colour even are your eyes?"
I chuckle, confused by the random question. "What?"
"Like...most days they're this amazing, piercing green. But sometimes, like today, they're this stunning, deep blue."
I blush, looking away, embarrassed by the compliments. "Um...I don't know. I think they're more of like a hazel."
"What? No way," he disagrees. I roll my eyes, Jake pushing himself up.
"Hey, where are you going?" I ask, sitting up myself.
"To show you your eyes, come on," he explains, offering me a hand. My eyebrows furrow, but I take it anyway and he helps me up. I peer out into the hallway, smiling when I see it deserted. I nod to Jake and he drags me into the bathroom I hid him in that one time. He leads me in front of the mirror, me just smiling at him and finding this cute.
