I come to my senses again, finally feeling well rested. I don't know how long I was asleep for, but it felt like a while. I instantly smile, content little bubbles filling my stomach. I feel a body under mine and arm still around my waist, holding me close. He didn't have a nightmare. He didn't wake up and leave me. Jake's still here.
I turn my head, snuggling into him even with the risk of rejection. I hear a slight sigh, and Jake adjusts his grip. Wait...he's awake? And he's not rejecting me? I try not to let my mind run wild and instead just enjoy the moment. I feel his lips press against my forehead softly and a million butterflies attack my entire body. Will he forgive me? Please tell me he'll forgive me. He doesn't even pull away afterwards, gently resting his head against mine. Every nerve in my body tingles, begging me to touch him in some way. I don't want this moment to end though, and I know that once I make a move it will.
"Are you awake?" Jake whispers. I hesitate for a moment, unsure of whether to reply or not. Jake's onto me though, still somehow reading my mind as he adds, "I know that you are."
I smile wider, mumbling, "No you don't," proving him right. It makes Jake chuckle slightly, his grip on me going loose.
"I need to shower," he says.
I don't move from on top of him though, enjoying this way too much. "So shower."
Jake sighs annoyedly, and I realize I should probably still be trying to get on his good side. I can't help it though. It feels incredible being able to touch him again. Unfortunately Jake wriggles out from under me, and I try to internalize my disappointment.
I finally open my eyes, deciding I'm awake and sitting up. Jake searches through a bag as I assume he looks for clothes. Surprisingly, he tosses something to me a moment later.
I catch it, Jake ordering, "Take your medication," before disappearing into the bathroom.
I sigh, rolling my eyes at his bossiness. I can't help but smile though, looking down at the pill bottle, beyond happy that he still cares. I follow his instructions, opening it. I can't dry swallow pills this size though, and the water's already running in the bathroom. I groan slightly, getting up and realizing I'm gonna have to find water somewhere else.
I still have two bucks to my name, so I grab my wallet and head to the door in search of a vending machine. I freeze in my tracks as soon as I open it though, spotting Mateo leaning against the railing only a few feet away. He turns to me, a cigarette in his hand and his expression changes to confusion.
"The fuck happened to your face?" he wonders.
I chuckle, replying, "long story," as I close the door behind me.
Mateo shrugs, saying, "I've got time."
I sigh, heading over to him and leaning against the railing too. "Um...Lucas wanted answers. And when I didn't talk...he uh..."
"Right," Mateo mumbles, nodding in understanding. He then chuckles, adding, "Hope he looks worse."
I look away, scratching my head in slight embarrassment. Lucas doesn't have a scratch on him.
"What?" he wonders, looking at me curiously.
"I...I didn't fight back."
