The storm clouds formed over New York City as the rain pelted down on the civilians below. The sounds of dogs barking were heard as they ran along side their owners as some ran for cover while others took the beating of the pouring rain.
Children took the advantage and began playing by the Lincoln Tunnel, playing hockey by the car packed streets. Thunder began crashing within the clouds as lighting was striking in random, yet not frequent places. In the Upper East Side of the city a couple ran into one of the buildings and pulled down their hoods and took down their umbrella.
The man had a kept gray beard that wasn't very long. He had brown eyes, a gray, brown mix of hair on his head and some wrinkles on his face. Next to him was a brunette woman, blue eyes and had a slight Italian accent.
"Thank you for the dinner Liam, I hope Olivia will enjoy it" the woman said looking at the box of take out.
"I'm sure she'll love it. But let's get up to the apartment, Lord knows how many are gonna come running in" Liam responded with a slight smile on his face. The two walked over to the elevator and pressed the up button. The elevator could be heard as the couple looked around the lobby of their apartment building. The light in the room was slightly fading as an African American Male sat in the lobby with a newspaper.
Upstairs a blonde female ran a pencil across the page in her notebook, drawing a crow with its wings spread, and its claws sharpened and ready to scratch something. She listened to her heavy rock music in her earphones, her hand gliding across the sheet of paper. Her room was packed with CD's, a stereo system, a small tv, and a bookshelf stocked with art books. She had pictures all over her walls of completed pictures she drew and posters of bands such as "Kiss" or "Skillet".
The woman from the lobby opened the door to the apartment, the vibration alerting the blonde female to her mother's presence. She pulled out her earbuds and stood up, she was wearing short shorts that stopped at her mid thigh, slip on shoes with no show socks with a pantyhose like feel to them. She wore a pink shirt underneath a red sweatshirt with her blonde hair free flowing. The woman opened the door and smiled.
"Hey Olivia, how was school?" The woman asked as she held the box of food.
"Oh it was fine, thanks for asking Emma" Olivia responded to the question.
"You know you don't have to keep calling me by my first name" Emma said as she smiled.
"It just wouldn't feel right...being that you're not my real mom" Olivia said.
"Just because you were adopted doesn't mean I don't love you any less....I bought home some food, I know how much you love Curry." Emma said as she motioned the box towards her.
Olivia smiled as she grabbed the box.
"May I see what you were drawing?" Emma asked as she opened the door more.
"S-sure" Olivia said as she grabbed her notebook and showed it to her Adoptive Mother.
"A crow? Normally you do a hawk or another bird of prey" Emma said.
Olivia smiled as she responded with "I wanted to try something different"
"Well...different isn't all bad" Emma said.
"Thank you...how was your date with Liam?" Olivia asked.
"It was one of the nicer ones, he walked me up to the apartment" Emma responded.
"Well, I never wanted to say this because I thought it would hurt you...but you made a good choice with this one" Olivia said with a smile.
"You know Olivia....I couldn't agree more" Emma said smiling.
