Olivia walked out of her fourth class after the bell rang, going to lunch. The halls were crowded as many walked in all sorts of different directions. She pushed through as she got closer and closer to the lunch room to meet up with Isabella.
"About time you showed, I'm starving!" Isabella said as Olivia entered the cafeteria.
"You say this everything Isabella, you know my class is on the other end of the school while you're literally two doors away." Olivia said in rebuttal.
"You should know better" Isabella replied.
"Touché" Olivia said.
Meanwhile the subway going through the city, filled with men, women and children alike went through the tunnel, about a mile off from its stop.
"Will we be to Mommy's soon daddy?" The little girl asked her father who wore a nice tailored suit.
"Of course we are, subway is the best way to get to her" he responded to her question with a smile. Within seconds the subway stopped and all of the lights turned off.
"What happened daddy?" The little girl asked her father who stood there, holding her hand as he looked around the darkness, only seeing the silhouettes of the people around him. He slowly began to sweat, not truly knowing what's going on.
"I....I don't know, it might just be a power outage, they'll have it fixed in no time if that's the case" he said, trying to reassure his daughter. The sound of water dripping was heard from outside, like a faucet letting off one drop at a time.
"Listen, this is fascinating and all, but I have a job interview to go to, I'm not letting some poor underground train breaking down to stop me." a man with a suitcase said as he walked towards the front.
"Why not call your boss, tell him or her that you may be a few minutes late due to a subway break down, I'm sure they'll understand" the father of the little girl said as she went close to him.
"Yeah, that may work for you, but not for me, I'm heading out" the man said as he shoved by the rest of the people opening the door and closing it behind him. He walked along the tracks, not being able to see much ahead.
"How many bucks does someone want to bet that he'll come running back?" A woman on the subway yelled out. A Hispanic man raised his hand.
"I'll bet a dollar that he will" he said with a smile on his face. Everyone began talking again only for whatever conversation they were having to be interrupted with a massive bang on the roof of train.
"Daddy what was that?" The little girl said hugging her father's leg.
"It's probably just a big rat, nothing to worry about dear" he said as he put his other hand on her head. As he said this the sound of something scratching against metal was heard, making its way towards the door of the subway. Droplets of water were seen just dropping as if they were coming from a faucet, except a lot more slime like. The sound of hissing was heard through the entire tunnel, no one knew what it was.
Meanwhile the man walked into the next stop and climbed up the wall leading into the track.
He brushed himself off as he went up the stairs and went to his job interview.
"Everyone! The subway is not coming, it's stopped midway in the tunnel with no power, I'm going to find a guy to come and fix it" he yelled out. The station was filled with the sound of disappointment.
"The third friggin station to do this to me!" A man yelled out in rage.
Meanwhile Olivia and Isabella threw away their trash and left the cafeteria.
"Alright, I'll see you in seventh period" Olivia said to Isabella.
"I'll see you there, I may be late though, try and cover for me please" Isabella said.
"I can do that." Olivia said with a smile on her face.
