Today, a Queens man by the name of Montell King was sentenced to life in prison. Almost two years ago, King murdered his ex-girlfriend, Katana Hamilton, and her boyfriend, Zion Carter, in Hamilton's apartment.

When police arrived, a neighbor reported seeing King earlier that day, snooping around Katana Hamilton's apartment. The night of the murder, the neighbor saw King enter Hamilton's apartment using a spare key that he found in a birdhouse Hamilton had hanging on the porch.

When questioned, King stated that he meant to murder then twenty-three year old Zion Carter, but he never meant to shoot Hamilton the first time. He says he has no remorse for killing Carter, but if he could do it all over again, he would not murder Hamilton.

King says that there was more to Carter's murder than the girlfriend. From his confession, we learned that Carter's brother is supposedly the murderer in the cold case of Malachi King that happened twelve years ago. Despite having this information, police refuse to make an arrest due to lack of evidence that can prove Carter's brother was at the crime scene.

In court, King pleaded guilty to first degree murder.

This is another story of a break up gone wrong, and it's sad because today is Katana Hamilton's birthday. She would've been twenty-three. Another life ended way too soon.

Donovan held onto a crying Giselle as they walked down the sidewalk. This time of year was always hard for her. The day Katana died, it was like Giselle lost a piece of herself. They had only known each other for a couple of months before she died, but they were like best friends. Besides, it not about how long you have known someone. It's about the impact they made on you within that time. When Giselle found out Katana was dead, she couldn't help but blame herself even though she knew she played no part in the situation.

Donovan on the other hand, also felt bad, but he had to seem strong for Giselle's sake. Knowing that he had a chance to prevent Montell from committing the heinous crime and didn't took a toll on him. If he would have talked his friend out of it, not only would two people still be alive, but Montell would still be out here, enjoying his freedom and probably starting that rap career he talked about so much.

"If only I tried harder convincing her to come out," Giselle would always say while Donovan struggled with the thoughts of the different ways that night could have ended.

Donovan and Giselle walked up to a particular grave as she tried to calm her crying.

"Here it is. Katana Brianne Hamilton." Donovan read as Giselle laid the roses among all the other flowers on Katana's grave. Her friend's favorite flower. Giselle remembered an argument Kim and Katana had about gifts. Kim wanted expensive things and refused to accept anything less than a hundred dollars. Katana on the other hand was a simple woman. To her, a bouquet of her favorite flower was more than enough. Knowing that, Giselle made it her job to leave a bouquet of roses for Katana on every holiday, every birthday, and sometimes just because.

"Have you talked to his mom?" Giselle asked, referring to Montell's mother.

"Yeah. She said their relationship was already rocky when she moved to Maryland, but now she wants nothing to do with him at all."

Giselle slowly nodded as she looked ahead of her. She walked away when she felt her tears coming again. Donovan looked around before pulling out a small bottle of Hennessy and pouring it in the grass beside the grave.

"Happy Birthday, Katana." Donovan whispered before jogging to catch up with Giselle

Montell followed behind another inmate as they walked single file into their pod. When they entered, he looked around and felt a wave of fear wash over his body. One of the guy's in Black's crew was in here. Hewas knocked out of his trance when his bedding was knocked out of his hand.

"So you the nigga that killed my lil' cousin? I know you didn't come here and think you was gone get away with killing Katana."

"And I should beat yo' ass for killing Black's brother too. He was like a cousin to me."

A group formed around Montell. Without realizing it, he had backed himself into a corner. Someone threw a punch and that's when everything went black.

1.1.22 Author's Note
———
I wanted to sound like Tupac so bad in that last author's note but that's beside that point. This book started in 2018 as an idea in my notes that said nothing but "Story begins with a man being taken away in a cop car. He possibly killed his ex-girlfriend and her new boyfriend." No details, no name or face claim for the main character. That's literally all it said. After listening to Nas' song "Undying Love" in 2019 and seeing that he barely had books on here I decided that I wanted to use him for the leading role. When I published this book I never expected many people would read this. Yet here we are in 2022 with 12 thousand reads, a thousand votes, over a hundred comments and counting.

For starters, I would like to thank you guys for reading this book and showing as much love as y'all did. Secondly, I would also like to thank you guys for ignoring the errors—and there were a lot—in this book. This is my third time rewriting/editing this book. The first time to go through and add what I thought was enough details at that time, the second time to go through and do some slight editing, and the third to go through and add more details, correct things that I might have repeated, and lastly to clear up anything that might have been confusing—because I sure was confused while rewriting— I am proud to say that this is my last time rewriting this book.

I would never publish anything I felt was trash (I did ask myself what the fuck I was talking about the whole time I wrote this book though) but every time my writing style changed I got the urge to rewrite this book. Now, this book is at a point where I feel like it's good enough to leave the way it is from now on. This will be my last time writing in this book so I wanted to use this author's note as a thank you for all the support you guys have given me from start to finish.

I'm not going to be on no Pac shit in this author's note so I'll finish off by saying I love all of you and thank you once again.
