Nine.
I cannot explain why or how the next words left my mouth, "Ash...do you like me...? Like, as more than a friend...?"
I immediately wish I hadn't said it, but I can't take it back now. I notice Ashton's muscles tense up, and he runs a hand through his hair repeatedly, then starts fiddling with his hands. He looks at the floor, down at his hands, suddenly the hem of his shirt become extremely interesting, he looks everywhere except for at me.
"Sadie..." He starts shakily, nervously playing with the hem of his shirt, and then tugging at the end of his curls, before directing his eyes at the floor, "Sadie...y-yes. I-I really, really like you. As much more than a friend," He breathes, inhaling and exhaling deeply before continuing, "but I know how Luke and Mikey feel about you. And I know that you're all undecided and I know that this is probably a lot to throw on you right now, but the answer is yes I do," He says this last part really fast, and once the last word is out of his mouth, he finally looks up and meets my eyes.
A small smile finds its way onto my face, and I notice that his cheeks are adorably tinted pink. "Ash...you're right about Luke and Mikey and everything, but the thing is-" I'm distracted by his hazel eyes looking straight at me; not quite green but not quite brown either; and watching me hopefully, "Gosh, you're so freakin' cute, Ashton." I let myself giggle nervously.
"Please continue," He says with a slight giggle, his eyes begging me to finish what I was saying.
"Oh...y-yeah, I was saying...you're right about Luke and Mikey, the only thing is-" I can't seem to finish my sentence no matter how hard I try. "Oh what the hell, yolo," I giggle nervously again, moving back towards him, and leaning in; my lips are just about to come into contact with his when someone in the hallway interrupts.
"What the hell is taking you two so long?" Luke's voice interrupts us, as he walks into my room. His jaw drops open a little, "Ah, I see." A little smirk finds its way onto his face, but before it does, I notice how his face drops a little, his expression hardening from one of disappointment to anger, before he quickly gets his emotions under control and puts on his smirk. He's jealous. Luke Robert Hemmings is jealous of Ashton.
"Oh, hi Lucas," I smile cheerily, pulling away from Ashton as he does the same, "OH! I have your Cobain shirt!" I exclaim, trying to brush off the whole thing. I'll be damned if I can have one uninterrupted moment with Ashton. I pick up Luke's shirt off the floor next to where Ashton's underwear lays, after being dropped when he went to kiss me before my idiot of a brother walked in, and hand it to him.
"Thank you Sadie," Luke smiles at me happily. It suddenly occurs to me that he must think I'm giving him my attention and ignoring Ashton because I like him. Uh-oh. And uh-oh indeed, I realize when I turn to look at Ashton, who is shaking his head sadly at me, his hazel eyes losing their shine. Oh no. Oh no, no, no, no, no.
Ashton thinks that I don't share his feelings. Oh no, no, no, no. I don't get to keep worrying in my mind, because a new voice interrupts my thoughts.
"How long does it take to find a t-shirt and a pair of underwear?!" Michael's voice demands, entering the room. You could cut the tension with a damn knife in here.
"We were just heading downstairs, right boys?" I tell Michael, looking towards Luke and Ashton.
"Yeah, let's go," Ashton says, brushing past Luke and Michael and out the door. Oh shit, I've really done it this time.
