The ref blows his whistle and the game begins. Hailey taps the ball to Lina and she sprints with it down the line. But when the defense challenges her she seems to have some trouble. The big defender steals the ball from Lina and boots it up the field. Straight to me. The ball is a little to high for me to trap it so i back up and head it to the ground. I sprint up to it and weave through the large striker and midfielders. Its jsut me and the ball. The ball and i. I can see lindsey is some what open so i lay it up to her she uses all her speed and passes one of the defenders. She lines up the shot and kicks the ball with all her might. Her face is scrunched with concentration. The goalie jumps and hits the ball out of the air, but she doesn't get the ball in her hands.
I jog back to the defensive line and jog in place, ready for anything coming at me. I am breathing hard. My breathe comes out as short puffs of foggy air. A girl from the other team gets control of the ball and dribbles it up the field. Alessia gets ready for the player but she over commits and the player runs right past her. This time i know its my time. I sprint and meet the player at an angle. I steal the ball away from her and i can hear her mutter a word that i really can't repeat. I run down the field and get in the zone. A few players get in my way but i dodge them and soon its just me against the goalie. My feet pound against the soggy grass and i have a perfect shot. I have beat all of the Siren players. But then i slip in a puddle of mud. I land right on my back. But i pull myself up. I am dripping head to toe in dirt. I pull my foot back and then swing it toward the ball. All of the other players are nearly too me. But the ball soars through the air before any of them reach me. The ball looks like it is going to go right over the cross bar. (The top of the goal.) But it curves right into the right corner.
My team cheers as the ball hits net. Way out of the goalies reach. I JUST SCORED!!!!!!! I ran back to the rest of my team. They all run up to me and highfive me.
"Great job Aria!!" Alex yells.
The ref blows his whistle and the ball is back in motion.
A huge player runs to the ball and sprints with it down the field. I run up to her and try to get the ball away. But the girl runs straight through me. My feet go out from under me and i land hard on the grass. My head takes most of the impact. It feels like glass has shattered through my skull. I can feel tears threatening to fall but my world goes black before they get the chance.
All i see is blackness.
