Noah has been back in school for a week now and has been walking around like a god with keys to the universe. Archer has had to stop me from punching him multiple times, at one point he literally had to catch me when I launched myself across the lunch room in an attempt to strangle him.
Yeah they might be a restraining order, but Belvin didn't think about that fact we would be eating lunch in the same place.
Today is the day things change. The day we all avenge Vanessa and what Noah did to her. We have arranged a protest outside the council and my dad and his team have gathered all the evidence they need to reopen her case. We have even managed to get in touch with everyone who was willing to testify and they have agreed to do it again.
Currently I'm sitting at lunch glaring daggers at Noah across the room. Something that has become a daily routine. Archer looks at me and smiles before wrapping an arm around me. "Babe come on relax. Things are going to get a hell of a lot worse for him starting today, so lets try and be happy."
"It's not that simple. I'll never be happy until that bastard is behind bars." I respond.
"And he will be. But we need to be patient." He whispers and kisses the side of my head, which comforts me. I sigh and look up at him.
"Thanks for putting up with me the past week. I know I haven't been the easiest." I comment.
He smiles. "You've never been easy babe...That's what I like about you so much."
All of out friends soon join us at the table. "Everything set for tonight?" Tessa asks and we all nod. "Cool. Channing when should we come by your place?"
"Be there by 4:30. Then we'll drive to the city council." I respond and everyone nods. My phone beeps and I see a text from my dad, wishing me luck on the protest tonight and that he has a good feeling about this.
I send a text to all 200 people that are involved. We even got some of the younger students to protest with us, even some college freshman who were there when it all went down. The past week, we have spent planning everything to a T. What time to be there, the signs we'll be holding, that I would be the one to confront the council, including the mayor and demand a retrial. And my dad and his team would be there to swoop in with all their evidence and witnesses.
I look over at Izzy and see she's nervous. Confrontation has never been her thing. But she was also friends with Vanessa, probably more so than I was.
Vanessa was a sweet girl and very innocent much like Izzy. You would often find her with her head in a book and when she spoke, she spoke in a soft, delicate voice. Sometimes I wondered if I engulfed her in a bear hug would she break? I don't know how the hell she got involved with Noah, but he did have that way about him. Somehow he managed to manipulate his way into a lot of people's lives and ruin them.
But Vanessa was one of the worst. After he assaulted her she was never the same. Her bright, infectious smile was gone and she became a shell of a person. It took her weeks until she finally opened up to me about what he did and I promised her I would help her. But when Noah was bailed out of jail and got away with it, she couldn't cope anymore.
The bell rings and we all head to our final classes of the day. I don't pay much attention to be honest, just watch the minutes go by on the clock. When the day finally ends, everyone walks out of school with purpose. Today is the beginning of Noah Williams' end. I'll make sure of it this time.
I run upstairs to my room and grab all the things I need when the doorbell rings and I hear Tessa, Izzy, Derek and Morgan's voices downstairs. They all each have signs with them and megaphones. My dad is standing there talking to them and looks up when he hears me approaching.
"I'm really proud of you kids. Standing up for Vanessa like this." He compliments.
"He doesn't get away with it this time." I say and everyone nods their heads in agreement.
I hug my dad goodbye and tell him I'll see him there in a bit. We get in our cars and head to the centre of Chicago where the council is based. I find somewhere to park and then walk and see floods of people already outside, chanting and waving their signs. It has already caught the councils attention and they're trying to contain it.
But when the CPD show up and don't attempt to stop the protest, thanks to a word by Sergeant Walker. I take this as my cue and stand up on the car being used as a podium.
"Are you Mayor Bennett?" I ask in the microphone handed to me.
"I am and who might you be?" He asks.
"My name is Channing Lewis and I was a friend of Vanessa Brookes. And I have a serious problem with her attacker being able to walk free, just because his dad works on your council." I say.
He frowns. "I'm sorry Miss Lewis, but Mr Noah Williams was found innocent."
"Because the case never went to trial! Because your councilman Nicholas Williams threatened the jobs of everyone of the jury and the judge. So, I'm proposing that we have a trial! If you and Mr Williams think Noah is innocent, you should have no problem with it! But if you deny us a trial, that just makes you look just as guilty. Look around! This is 300+ students who attended the same high school as Vanessa, who knew her and also know what Noah did! We have evidence and witnesses, we even have a witness who was assaulted by him and is willing to testify!" I yell.
"TRAIL! TRAIL! TRAIL! TRAIL!" Everyone starts chanting.
"The people want a trial Mayor Bennett! You promised when you became Mayor you would deliver what the people wanted! Are you going to stick to that promise or not?" I challenge.
He sighs and looks at another council member before looking at me. "You make a good point Miss Lewis...There will be a trail next week. Noah Williams VS The people of Chicago. We will get to the bottom of this once and for all."
Everyone begins cheering and I let out a sigh of relief. I nod my head towards Mayor Bennett in a sign of respect and a 'thank you'. He nods back before walking back into the building. I see Archer and smile and jump off the car roof and into his arms.
"That was awesome babe!" He compliments and kisses me.
As soon as we break apart, the both of us are crushed by our group of friends and the streets continue to come alive in celebration.
This is all for you Vanessa. And we will win.

SURPRISE! I'VE UPDATED! I know it's been over a year and for that I am sorry. I have to be honest, I kind of fell out of love with this story for a while. I wanted to experiment and expand my writing, since I started this story back when I was only 16-17. I've also been through a lot the past couple of years. But seeing how much you all love it and wanted me to update, made me return. I can't promise my updates will be that regular, since I have another story currently in the Wattys2019 competition that I need to focus on. It's called 'The Missing Twin', would really appreciate you all having a read ;) THANK YOU A MILLION for your continued support! ~ Mackenzie
