We've all decided to go to dance class this week, something we haven't done for a while. My background in all forms of dance goes back to when I was just 2 years old and even though I haven't been going to professional classes, I still dance at home. I drop my bag at the side and watch the current class of beginners doing a jazz routine. After 10 minutes the music stops and everyone claps, while the class disbands and they all either head home or stay to watch our class.
I say hello to Joey our instructor and he shows us the routine that he choreographed for this week to the song, 'Needed Me' by Rihanna. First up is Tessa, Zeke and Morgan. They complete the routine and hear claps from everyone watching, then Izzy, Derek and Chase go and finally it's my turn. I complete the routine and everyone claps, I hear one clap more forced than others, so I turn around and see my mother standing there. I look and see all my friends and crammed together with unsure faces, feeling awkward about the whole situation already.
"You always were a good dancer." She comments.
"Thanks." I simply reply. When she doesn't continue I shrug. "What are you doing here?" I ask.
"What? I can't come and watch my only child dance?" She asks.
"No. You wanted out of my life remember, that means you stay out I don't have time for your games and even if I did, I wouldn't waste any of it on you. Joey, you got anymore dances?" I ask looking at Joey who nods and shows me another one.
I look over at the others and they all come over and join me. Tessa, Zeke and I do it first and later Izzy, Derek, Morgan and Chase do it. After the time is up which is just around when the others finish, I grab my bag and walk out with them, walking straight past my mum. We all walk out to our cars and I throw my bag in the back with the rest of them when I hear mum calling me.
"I want to try and at least get back on talking terms with you Channing. I know I hurt you." She says and I spin around.
"You didn't just hurt me. You hurt my dad and I will never forgive you for that!" I exclaim before getting into my car and driving off. I drop Zeke and Izzy off home and head back to my house. I see my dad's car parked along with another and I frown getting out of the car and walking in and seeing my dad speaking with a man and woman, however when I look further to the right, I see someone unexpected.
"Archer?" I ask and they all turn. When he sees me he smiles.
"Hey Channing." He greets.
"Ah, Detective Lewis, this must be your daughter." The older man said. "I'm Francis Walsh and this is my wife Mary and I see you know Archer?" He says more like a question.
"Yeah, a friend of his is dating a friend of mine so we all hang out together now." I answer and they all nod understanding.
"Well Detective, thank you so much for your help." Mary smiles shaking my dad's hand followed by Francis and then Archer. They start to leave and when Archer walks up he smiles and I remember what I wanted to ask him.
"So, how's it going with that girl you like?" I ask.
"Good. I took your advice and I really think I'm winning her over. May take a little while, but a starts a start." He comments and I nod smiling.
"Good. I'll see you later." I wave goodbye and close the door. I look back at my dad and frown. "What was that about?" I ask.
"Nothing important. Someone's been following them the past few days, wanted me to look into it." He answers and I nod. "How was dance class?" He asks.
"Good, until mum showed up." I comment.
"How the hell did she know you were going to dance class? You haven't been in months." He asks.
"No idea. But she came pleading for forgiveness." I say and he nods slowly. "Anyway I need to go and shower. I assume your heading back out to work again?" I ask and he nods. "Well be careful."
"I will. See you later." He says hugging me and kissing my forehead, before walking out the front door. I sigh and walk upstairs to my room, Buster at my ankles as per usual and I go shower and get dressed into sweats and climb into bed.
My phone beeps and I look and see a text from Archer.
A: Your dad seems like a cool guy.
C: Yeah he is. Sorry to hear what's happening.
A: No problem, doesn't bother me.
C: Well I'm tired, so I'm heading to bed. Maybe I'll see you soon or back at school.
A: Yeah sure. See you later.
I put my phone down and switch my TV on watching 'The Night Shift'. I must've watched 3 episodes and looked and saw it was almost 11:30 pm, so I switch my light off and go to sleep.
